Myrtle Crest, Harbor Lights run to cross country titles

Myrtle Crest school in Myrtle Point and Harbor Lights Middle School in Bandon took the boys and girls team titles at the recent middle school district cross country meet at Tugman State Park in Lakeside.

Myrtle Crest’s boys scored 47 points to beat runner-up Siuslaw (70), Riley Creek of Gold Beach (93), Sunset (98) and four other schools.

Siuslaw’s Mitchell Butler ran away with the individual title, covering the 3,000-meter course in 10 minutes, 12 seconds. Justin Angove of Harbor Lights was second in 10:33, with Connor Devereux of Sunset third in 10:53. Myrtle Crest had four of the top 10 runners, led by fourth-place finisher Cody Hernandez.

Harbor Lights had five of the first 11 girls, winning the team title with 31 points. Sunset was a distant second with 75 points, followed by Riley Creek with 88.

Riley Creek’s Clara Herbage won a close race for the individual title, finishing in 11:52. She was followed by Claire Ledig of Harbor Lights (11:56), Katelyn Wells of Siuslaw (11:59), Riley Wahl of Harbor Lights (12:03), Morgan McNeely of Myrtle Crest (12:09), Hailey Hewitson of Harbor Lights (12:10) and Zenora Burris of North Bend (12:11).
