Proverbs says “Learn to be wise, he said, and develop good judgment and common sense.”

Years with Ayers an unrepented bomber and anti-American. Years with Wright, who preached black power and down with Americans. Years with Resco. Now ACORN.

Give me a beak. I wasn’t born last night.

Hurry and vote. There could be something else come to light.

I’m retired. My wife is on disability and has no coverage for her more than $400 a month prescriptions. We are still blessed. I was on the USS Essex in the Bay of Pigs. John McCain was on the USS Enterprise. I was on the USS Coral Sea off Vietnam. John was at the Hanoi Hilton. He has given all to America and wants to give more.

God is with John McCain and Sara Palin. Let’s give the country back to God.

Do we, as a nation, owe John a debt of gratitude?

Lets reverse that trend this instant. wrote on Nov 28, 2008 7:57 AM:

When a nation turns its back to God, God will turn His back on that nation. Those who say, "There is no God," may soon see what a country is like without God.
We have done so much to erase every trace of God, the God who blessed our country above all others. We are doing our level best to forget God in all aspects of our lives. The liberals like to say you can't legislate morality, but they have done a great job of "legislating" immorality. Legislating from the bench, that is.
Only a handful of people want to erode our right to Free Speech. Only a handful despise God so much that He must be eradicated. But we have allowed that handful to abuse the courts and force their perversion upon us.

If the propaganda that there is a separation of Church and State as you believe is true. Then why does State and Federal employees have Thanksgiving and Christmas off? Shouldn't they be working on these days for the good of the country?

Great letter Darrel. As for the rest of the ingnorant letters I have to address WTF since it was at the top in ignorance.
There is no such thing as seperation of Church and State. The 1st Amendment says. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free excersize thereof"..... Where did you get your info?

Michael Stevens wrote on Nov 7, 2008 8:41 PM:

Mr. Cariveau,

My only question for you (and the rest of the Evangelical Right) is this: What does God have to do with any of this?

God will love us more if we vote for Senator John McCain, because he served in Vietnam? We need to give our country "back to God" because he is rooting for McCain and Palin?

I didn't know it was His in the first place.

The year is 2008. Change is here, and whether you, Mr. Cariveau, and others are ready or not, it's happening.

We all know about the electorial college!!
But if you don't vote you can't gripe about who won!!
As Karl Rove wrote about in WSJ
"28 years only 11 of 20 eligible Americans on average cast a presidential ballot."
Karl Rove taught a good lesson and the Obamachine was a great student.
McCain was NOT a conservative and the Reps. knew they were going to lose this one.

I find it very humorous that all of you think our vote counts when it comes to picking the president. Have you forgotten we only give the popular vote? Elecoral votes ring a bell at all? No wonder you believe all the rumors about Obama. You were never educated in the first place.

Move on says we raised 88 million dollars for you wrote on Nov 7, 2008 8:00 AM:

For far-left zealots like Moveon.org, the goal is a European-like entitlement
culture where the feds provide direct assistance to those not
having a lot of money. In places like France and Sweden, there
are no demands placed upon those receiving government money;
cradle-to-grave financial support is simply given to anyone
earning under a certain amount. So, if you want to gamble all
day long or drink vodka until your legs give out, fine--you
still get the check, the housing, the medical care.

Former CB Resident wrote on Nov 7, 2008 5:28 AM:

I agree with MarkM to a point. We need to to take care of the weak and the poor. Christians 4 Obama, good scripture. The problem I have is the enabling of big government programs such as tax-free unemployment and welfare. These are good stepping stones and tools for people to get out of hard times, but it is proven in the past that these programs fall into the wrong hands and the government becomes enablers for laziness. We should provide tools for the poor, but need to make sure they are either going to school or working to receive them.

To Darrell wrote on Nov 7, 2008 5:06 AM:

It looks to me that God was on Obama's side. Besides, no debt of gratitude that we owe the men and women who serve in the military entitles them to the Presidency.

Time for you to join all the other christian radicals who are preparing for the "end of time" because you have no faith.

To CB Resident: I find it funnier that you do not, will not or can not recognize the fact that not everyone believes in your God, or any God for that matter. So for you to say that WE don't have a clue what we are talking about is...well, laughable.

cb resident wrote on Nov 6, 2008 1:20 PM:

I find it funny that everyone has a comment to make and "speaks" with authority when they really don't have a clue about what they are talking about. We do not know what the future holds nor does the President. The only one who does know is God.

Trust me on this one. God hates ALL of you white capitalists greedy scum bags.

Samuel wrote on Nov 5, 2008 10:03 AM:

I have been reading all of these comments and I have to say that This is a country of diverse beliefs.
I am very much a Christian but feel that this world is so secular that God has nothing to do with politics. He plainly says give unto Ceasar what is his and that is it. Jesus never endorsed anyone on this earth as a leader nor will he ever. His kingdom is not of this world. Whether you believe in the Flying Spaghetti Creature or whatever, one point was made clear and that is God is not a part of this political system. If you are a believer though, pray for his will to be done! God does not prefer one man over the other. He loves us all equally and unconditionally.

Local Lady wrote on Nov 4, 2008 10:34 AM:

One of the beautiful things about this country is "Freedom of Religion". So who cares which "god" is with which candidate? I've never seen a god in the Oval Office. If were really that easy I could run down to my local church, get down on my knees, and ask ever so politely "God? If you're there, could you fix us?" and the heavens would open up, the angels would sing, blah blah blah and it would all be fixed. Just like that. But the reality is, that's not going to happen. We will have a human who has flaws, who makes mistakes, who is over-scrutinized to the point of disgusting. So quit it with all this "god" garbage, "he" has nothing to do with this.

And last I heard, in McCain's oh so wonderful "service" to our nation. He was taken prisoner and he talked. Way to keep your American values and pride in check John.

God hasnt been there to help us with ALL of our past presidents and their staff, why should things change now?

Plus God is smart enough to stay out of corrupt politics.

Phil wrote on Nov 4, 2008 9:02 AM:

OK, so God is with John McCain because he served in the military. Does that boil things down? Look at George W. Bush, a self proclaimed man of God, who got us into a needless war, economic recession, extraordinarily high gas prices, etc. etc. I'm not completely negative, and I'm also not someone who votes straight party line, but at the same time it seems like the blessings aren't stacking up like they were before the GOP took the White House.

Christians 4 Obama wrote on Nov 4, 2008 8:59 AM:

Jesus helped the poor, not the rich...I'm assuming he was a socialist too?

Matthew 19:24 "And again I say to you: It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven."

E Harold wrote on Nov 4, 2008 8:56 AM:

There's nothing about America in the bible.I voted Obama, and if there was a God I'm sure she would have voted for him too.

I didnt even know God could vote... wrote on Nov 4, 2008 6:40 AM:

I didn't realize that God had gone public and endorsed a candidate, odd that he picked the greedy rich elitist, but maybe it part of his plan to destroy the world with the Devil's favorite politician group, the Republican GOP party, and their brilliant plans to start wars they can't win and destroy the planet with global warming. Oh well, maybe God isn't perfect after all...

Incidentally, I hear that Santa Claus and the Easter bunny are also pro-McCain...Santa's reindeer a split on the candidates, but the elves are backing Obama. Of course they're all make-believe fantasy creatures, sort of like the whole idea of McCain ever becoming president.

God is an imaginary friend not a political solution wrote on Nov 4, 2008 6:33 AM:

Wow, where to start. Keep your "god" out of American politics. Imaginary invisible giants in the sky don't regulate U.S. policy or help enforce it. Get a life, learn the facts, and vote accordingly. Stop pretending that one candidate is godly and implying that the other candidate is not. It's childish, ridiculous, and destroys any merit your opinion might have otherwise had.

Patriot wrote on Nov 1, 2008 3:56 PM:

Become enlightened.Realize that the attacks that have been directed at Obama, are nothing more than a smokescreen to distract the uninformed from reality. It has been proven that these "associations" have been distored and negated as real issues. McCain has many more associations that should be questioned, especially his pattern of his treatment toward women, and his misrepresentation of his hero status. This country represents all religions, and should be inclusive and accepting of a variety of beliefs, which Obama is. He doesn't have to select an evangelist as his VP to get votes. He is a real unifier with high ideals. People who are truly devout, religious people don't have to brag about it or wear it on their sleeves. They live a Godly life by the actions they take, and are not hypocrits. If one is truly patriotic he does what is best for the country, and not try to claim victory at all costs, which destroys not only many Americans lives, but other cultures as well for an unjust war.

Lynn in CB wrote on Nov 1, 2008 12:25 PM:

AMEN VOTER!! And Danny? Just the fact you put the word "schmod" after our Lord's name shows what a tool you really are!! Vote McCain or be prepared for a world of hurt by this wanna be rock star named Obama!

Al the Pal wrote on Nov 1, 2008 8:46 AM:

If we give the country back to God, will He be responsible for the taxes? And if the economy stays as bad as it is, and the country is forclosed on, where will God live then, is there like a sign for that, pointing the way?

Of some one who will vote against their own interests.

John McCain has not a clue as to your suffering Darrel.
He is a man who is out of touch with the realities of America today.

And, if you please, I worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster, would you be so kind as to bow down to my God?

Thomas wrote on Nov 1, 2008 7:38 AM:

The World does us a great service in publishing so many letters akin to this one, as they certainly have given readers much insight into just how difficult the maintainance our democracy truly has become.

Danny wrote on Oct 31, 2008 10:58 PM:

I was a Sailor on the USS ESSEX as well - and? God, Shmod. we all have different Gods and our country was founded to allow for freedom for all - including the right to worship who we want. therefore, it's important to keep God out of the governing of our country. McCain shows more and more every day that he is a feeble old man. Thankfully, those wanting to force their small-minded beliefs and religions upon the man are falling into the minority in our country and we can return our country to logic, reason and lawfullness!!!!! THANK GOD for that!

MarkM wrote on Oct 31, 2008 7:55 PM:

I thank John McCain for his bravery and service. I don't feel like I owe him the presidency because of it. Besides, didn't Jesus want us to beat our swords into plowshares?

Matthew 25: Whatsoever you do to the least of these, that you do to me.

Does Jesus really want us to give more money to the most wealth? Doesn't he want us to care for the sick and poor?

People voting for Obama don't read and
don't want to know anything negative
about him, they are looking at him with
rose colored glasses and nothing is
going to change their minds, not matter
what he has done, or who his misguided
friends are. They don't care. They
like how he looks and talks, even with
his stuttering when trying to come up
with an answer....they are closed minded
and think he is their answer from God,
who is going to give them something
for nothing and thats that....
And quit worrying about McCain going to
die in office, he has been through hell
and survived that, and his MOTHER IS
STILL ALIVE, which means good genes
and long life....

CB Liberal wrote on Oct 31, 2008 2:10 PM:

Yes, Darrell we do owe John McCain a debt of gratitude, just as we do all of our soldiers who have fought for this country in all our wars, whether justly founded or not. However, that debt of gratitude does not come in the form of the Presidency. Just because he served his country does not mean that we should just hand him our highest ranking office.
Also, I would like to point out the separation of church and state that some of us so greatly enjoy. And please do not say that I am not a patriot because I do not believe in God- I love this country because I don't have to believe in your God.
By the way, good luck with those prescriptions when John gets "handed" his new oval office. With him in office, you will never see the end of high prescription drug costs and healthcare.
