Southwestern Oregon Community College will host “Election 2008: History in the Making” from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Eden Hall on campus. During the event, students will discuss with panelists — including Southwestern faculty members and Coos County Commissioner Kevin Stuffle-bean — the process by which voters elect presidents, as well as the politics, policies and issues being talked about by the Republ-ican and Democratic presidential campaigns.

Following the discussions, students and community members will be able to watch election results together while enjoying refreshments.

Other watch parties are planned around the area, including those hosted by Coos County Democrats and Republicans.

Democrats will host a watch party in the banquet room across from Sears in Pony Village Mall starting at 6 p.m.

Republicans kick their party off around 5:30 p.m. at party headquarters in Pony Village Mall.

Both groups will have big TVs to watch election coverage and monitor returns. Both parties will have food.

Douglas County Democrats also will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bedrock’s Pizzeria, 2165 Winchester Ave., in Reedsport.

Election coverage will be monitored on television; a party will follow at 8 p.m. at the Winchester Bay House,  20 Eighth St. in Winchester Bay There will be pizza, beer,  and other snacks.
