Obama isn’t doing the newspeak

Both the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates claim they will bring change. But whom can we trust?

Palin and McCain have been trying to re-ignite the “culture wars” turning well-meaning Republicans and Democrats, rural and city dwellers, coastal and Midwest Americans against each other.

McCain has been using Bush political strategist Karl Rove’s playbook and is playing the hate and fear card. One tactic is to accuse Obama and liberal Democrats of being un-American and supporting or even being terrorists. Substitute “terrorists” for “communists” and you get the McCarthy witch hunts. General Colin Powell, former Secretary of State under Bush, apparently has had enough of it and has endorsed Obama, as have so many other Republicans.

Perhaps most frightening is the expansion of the RNC’s tactics of vote suppression and manipulation of the last two presidential elections. The Help America Vote Act is actually being used to unfairly remove certain potential Democratic voters (typically older, younger and minority voters) in some battleground states. The right to vote is our constitutionally protected right to determine our leaders and the future of our democracy in a peaceful manner. So who is “destroying the fabric of democracy” as McCain blustered?

This is Orwell’s 1984 newspeak.

We believe Obama and Biden will work to end the occupation of Iraq and promote a sustainable energy policy. Unfortunately, critical issues facing our nation and our world are still framed in the two-party rhetoric that has gotten us into this mess. We were angry and discouraged when they supported the Wall Street bailout. But it’s clear that Obama’s economic plan is designed to help the shrinking middle-class, low-income people and small businesses, while McCain’s further spreads the wealth to the rich and large corporations.

Obama has shown himself to be a level-headed man of intelligence, strength, heart and integrity and we think our country would be very fortunate to have his refreshing approach in the White House. The alternative of four more years of trashing the Constitution under radical right wing rule is not what we need.

Please join us in voting for Obama and Biden. And then let’s work to reform our electoral process to better reflect the will of the people and to meet the needs of a democratic nation. Standing up for our democracy is what makes us true Americans.

Well if you really read the papers about Keating 5 you would have learned that McCain was McCain was investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee and ultimately ONLY reprimanded for "poor judgment."
Sen. McCain has been elected Sen. of Arizona since then and he was friends with Charles Keating before Keating became corrupt, as opposed to Obama becoming friends with an American Terrorist, knowing who he was and what he did.

How do I know about John McCain? After living in Arizona for many years and reading what the local news papers have said about him, after living through his business dealings with Charles Keating and loosing most of my savings in Mr Keatings savings/loan, after having my business which involved home construction go under because I gave credit to small businesses and they could no longer get financing to finish under construction houses. OH I know Mr McCain, evidently a whole lot better then you do so evidently YOU are the JOKE because you know not of what you defend. And for YOUR information, CB/NB is far far from the REAL WORLD....

Donna and John.. That was a great letter of support for Senator Obama. And it was right on point. Thank you.
I've seen Senator Obama up close, listened to his message and have seen the determination in his face to guide us to a better nation. I've seen John McCain up close also. The wild eyed anger in his eyes and face speaks loud and clear of days in a Vietnam prison for which he has not forgiven the U.S., his father and grandfather, for not rescuing him from.
Our leader should NOT have this angered frame of mind. I trust Senator Obamas leadership because he has a clear vision of whats ahead for our country. I don't trust John McCains angry vision. He only wants to hurt and get even for what he considers his being treated wrong by the American People of Vietnam days.

TO AMERICAN DREAM...I just can't believe you think Senator Obamas style of government will take YOUR money. I guess thats the Coos Bay/North Bend way of thinking. If you listen VERY CLOSELY, to what he says, he is wanting to put people back to work... You remember what JOBs are don't you? Thats where the money will come from that he wants to pass around. Rebuilding America, it's roads, schools, hospitals, etc, etc, all bring in taxes when folks work. Remember what that system is like. We had it under Bill Clinton but Obamas plan is better. You need to read more and understand what you are reading.

You want to attack Syria?
Lets do Israel first then...priorities you know...

Obama has no history FOR anything!

Why do you believe someone like Obama that cannot even backup what he is telling you?

Because Obama is a smooth talker?

Wake up!

He is playing America for what he wants and it is not the good of the American people!

The American Dream is DEAD if Obamas brand of CHANGE is unleashed on the American people. wrote on Oct 29, 2008 6:06 AM:

bama's economic plan is simply another BIG Welfare plan, to take money others make, and give it to those who haven't earned it.

Its absolutely NOT Governments job to redistribute wealth. The reason we HAVE income taxes is to raise revenues to RUN the Government, not to REDISTRIBUTE wealth.

If individuals who EARNED the wealth want to REDISTRIBUTE it, then thats called charity....and thats great. When Government takes it, then thats called TYRANNY.

Syria is violating the UN arms embargo on Iraq.
Syria has apparently purchased tank engines, Mig parts, and other weapons, and has secretely delivered it all to Iraq.
Syria, current president of the UN Security Council, is violating the UN arms embargo on Iraq by sending weapons and military equipment delivered to Syrian ports on to Iraq via trucks and rail. Most, but not all, of the supplies come from East European countries. Among other things, Russian-made jet engines, refurbished Russian tank engines and Czech anti-aircraft cannon are being delivered to Iraq via this route.
