The Powers volleyball team advanced to the Class 1A playoffs for the third straight year by beating Camas Valley in the Skyline League tournament on Saturday.

The Cruisers travel to Damascus Christian for a first-round match on Wednesday. The winner travels to Griswold on Saturday.

The Cruisers topped the Hornets 25-12, 25-22, 25-11.

Nicole Bittner had 10 kills, five blocks and two aces for the Cruisers, while Kristin Clauson added six kills, 16 digs and five aces and Haley Patterson had 20 assists.

“We came out focused and strong and were able to dominate Camas the entire match,” said Powers coach Beth Rector. “It was some of the best playing I’ve seen out of my team the entire year, which is excellent.”

In a match to determine the league’s No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, Elkton topped the Cruisers 25-17, 25-9, 25-17.

“We just came out flat and were tired from the Camas match,” Rector said. “We just weren’t playing our game.”

Bittner had four kills and seven digs and Clauson had 12 digs in the loss.

Bittner and Patterson received first-team all-league honors, while Clauson and Patterson were named to the all-tournament team.

Damascus Christian, located just east of Clackamas in the Portland area, won the regular-season title in the Valley 10 League, but lost to Southwest Christian in the league playoffs. The Eagles are 18-2 on the season.

Powers is 11-5 on the year.

The match will be played at 6 p.m.

Admission for first-round matches is $6 for adults and $4 for students.
