Jordan Cove Energy Project has assembled a team of four companies to design and build its proposed liquefied natural gas terminal on Coos Bay’s North Spit.

Black & Veatch, of Kansas City, Mo.; Kiewit Energy Co., of Omaha, Neb.; Vinci Construction Grands Projects, of Paris, France; and Entrepose Contracting S.A., of Paris, entered into a project development agreement with Jordan Cove last week, said the energy company’s project manager, Bob Braddock.

The agreement essentially allows the team to begin refining existing engineering work on the terminal, said Braddock.

The project still requires federal approval before construction can begin. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is expected to issue a ruling on Jordan Cove’s LNG terminal application in May.

Braddock said the agreement will allow the team to be fully prepared to go into the field to begin work if Jordan Cove decides to proceed with construction. The additional engineering work will not change the overall design, Braddock said.

“We cannot change the design without FERC approval and we don’t want to do that,” he said.

Instead, the engineering will be focused on detail work, such as designing the pipe used in the terminal.

Black & Veatch will focus on engineering design, while Kiewit Energy would have the task of managing overall construction of the terminal. The two foreign companies would focus on construction of the LNG tanks, said Braddock.

The locals around here have said "No" so many times to industry, development and real jobs it's a wonder anyone wants to raise a family here. The schools really don't care about anything but athletics -witness the monstrocity on the South side of the MHS football field. Yes, yes... that money was donated, but why not donate it to the LIBRARY?? That would certainly help more than unfilled cold seats in the rain. The job market here is dead and has been for years. A great place to raise kids and make a family wage. NOT.

I work in a local business. I am privy to job applications that come in. It is a shame when the applicant cannot even write a complete sentence. Mine is not a high tech company - but there are basic communication skills required. I don't blame Braddock; I blame the pool of applicants.

Having this LNG SCAM and hoping for jobs in the future That makes sense NOT wrote on Nov 1, 2008 7:24 AM:

So this beautiful coast is suppose to get trashed with industrial so "maybe" there will be jobs in the future, since there won't be any jobs after it's built? This area gets all risks from this unsafe air polluter so "maybe" in the future, some locals that go to college & get the necessary degreee so they will be able to "apply" & "maybe" given an interview for a job at Jordan Cove? Nice try Bob Braddock shills, but the area & Oregon citizens (majority) aren't buying what you are selling/con us here SORRY!

..... wrote on Oct 31, 2008 2:56 PM:

Wow, some people are so closed minded. Why not try looking at the BIG picture. Even if this LNG thing does not create jobs for locals right away, the people brought in to work will be spending much money here and the Jordan Cove people will not work forever, the will retire. It will be nice for the young people to have a reason to further their education and stick around and raise their families here.

Common Sense wrote on Oct 30, 2008 10:53 AM:

How can you tell it's a Bob Braddock shill?

Answer: When they support this California LNG SCAM at Jordan Cove because they say it will provide jobs, when in reality the construction & the few jobs it does create will be given to outsiders instead of locals here!

Lets quite whining and get to work getting some pro-growth, pro-industry going.

Kari me away wrote on Oct 29, 2008 1:59 PM:

Kari, do you think I would think you would like the French. They tax at a 70% rate so that they can spread the wealth and no one has to work. Sounds like a good place for you to buy a one way ticket to.

EXCUSE ME wrote on Oct 28, 2008 2:11 PM:

I WAS BORN IN OREGON, LIVED HERE ALL OF MY LIFE, AND I AM NOT POOR, OR STUPID!!!

I RESENT THE OBVIOUS IMPLICATION THAT BECAUSE SOMEONE SIMPLY DISAGREES WITH YOU, THEY MUST BE POOR AND STUPID!

I would challenge you to an intellectual duel, but I don't fight unarmed people.

Maybe you should be one of the skilled laborers losing their land to this SCAM wrote on Oct 28, 2008 12:12 PM:

Skilled local labor & the rest of Bob Braddock's shills

No jobs now mean NO JOBS in the future with this Lng SCAM at Jordan Cove! Obviously Bob Braddock doesn't care about this area by bringing outside contractors in & next will be outside workers at Jordan Cove after it's built! You have to be a pathetic FOOL to believe this is going to help this area or state!

Con man Bob braddock coming out with a worldwide best seller wrote on Oct 28, 2008 10:56 AM:

Title: How to get RICH off poor & ignorant states as Oregon!

1) find a poor & ignorant state, then

2) buy out the important Oregon leaders (Make sure it's enough to cover all appeals against this LNG SCAM so all judges get their share) starting with Gov Ted which will include his appointed Port commissioners, then

3) Promise the citizens of that poor & ignorant state that this project will means jobs jobs & more jobs, then

4) Then after FERC approves the LNG SCAM, pay off the Oregon leaders the remaining money owed to them, then

5) Finally, bring in who you want & trust from the outside to construct & work at the LNG Storage center, because your come free just counting all that $$$ that you made off these poor & ignorant people!

Summary: Democracy works in the goodoleUSA, just got to have a good story & pay off well to the right people!

The bosses will come from France . . .OK workers, how's your French?

skilled local labor wrote on Oct 28, 2008 1:48 AM:

Kari,

How can locally qualified labor exist in a market that does not yet have that industry? What kind of idiot would go to college or a trade school for a specialized job market and remain in a location that does not have work in that field? Once an industry that requires specialized training and degree requirements exists in a location, then the local children and adults will learn those specialized job skills. But this type of reasoning probably doesn't create nifty slogans.

French money is pretty good wrote on Oct 27, 2008 10:41 PM:

Last I checked the Euro was worth more than the Dollar. So I imagine they will have no trouble hiring americans (doubt the french working stiffs will flock to CB).

Might be a lot of french around these parts as a result. At least they have an excuse for being rude.

Local Worker wrote on Oct 27, 2008 9:50 PM:

Here we go again. All these big time developers come to town and sing the same tune, jobs, jobs, jobs for the locals.

Then go and hire folks from everywhere else saying Coos County doesn't have the 'right' workers? All we locals are good enough for is to do up their motel rooms and take out their trash.

LNG isn't going to do anything for the average Coos Bay worker. . . nobody cares.

Boo on LNG. Terminals weren't safe enough for Californians and they are going to get all the gas.

Coos Bay just gets the trash and Oregon gets their pipe. We all take a hosing to benefit those smarter safer Californians.

If NASA moved it's headquarters to Coos County, everyone would complain they didn't get a job. There are SO many rocket scientists in Coos County. I guess people around here just have no experience with jobs that require qualifications and experience. It's all strange to them.

COOS COUNTY?

Let's see, scoff at the dumb local workers not qualified.

Scoff at the landowners you'll steal from.

Scoff at us, then tell us how lucky we are to be getting those FOREIGN EXPERTS.

Tell me about the Snake Oil Salesmen now.

Snake Oil Shopper wrote on Oct 27, 2008 1:30 PM:

Let's make sure to ask all the local construction companies to get together to build an LNG facility... then if a Tsunami comes and wipes out the buildings we can say it was a foreign plot to cause total death & destruction to the bay area... better yet... let's leave it to the lowest bidder that way we will absolutely guarantee the highest quality of building standards...people post the dumbest comments on this web site

Kari wrote on Oct 27, 2008 1:23 PM:

But.... but.....but.....

Ya'all promised jobs, jobs, jobs, we just didn't know it was for those Parisian workers, have we changed the name back to French Fries yet?

Yup, yer all for Buy America, until it comes to your Profit Motive. Some people have NO moral standards.
Thanks

Miller wrote on Oct 27, 2008 12:03 PM:

Great news for LNG! Vinci Construction Grands Projects (France)has locations all over the world. They are perhaps the most qualified for this type of work. If your going to build it, build it right. Does kari think that a project of this magnitude would be constructed by local contractors. LOL. Get real. You find and hire the best company regardless of what country they are from. I absolutley believe in keeping jobs at home and buying American made goods but sometimes its not possible with a project as complex as this one. I commend Bob Braddock for not cowaring to the anti-everything people of coos county. Once LNG is built I hope more large facilities locate here and turn this area back into a working man's town. Tourism business can still work for those who enjoy minimum wage but I prefer family wage jobs. Hooray for LNG!

justmusin wrote on Oct 27, 2008 12:01 PM:

to Kari:
The companies cited are certified in this type of engineering, construction and site development. I for one, would much rather have someone with experience building this type of facility. Do you really want to leave it to some company who has a hard time building a house?? The "jobs, jobs, jobs" will come from people running the place.

everyman wrote on Oct 27, 2008 11:53 AM:

Dear Karl...ok, hang tight, here we go:

- Subcontractors
- 2 domestic companies/2 international...why? because our countries red tape in energy issues has put us behind the curve in Alt energy construction expertise.
- family wage jobs...for the full-time employees (not the construction workers), many of whom will not be hired locally, but who will live/eat/shop/pay taxes locally.
- I bet if all the construction companies bring in "outsiders" to do the work...the local hotels and eateries won't complain one bit...

And finally...please grow up. The "Nanny-nanny boo-boo" argument dosen't change the fact that you should get off the tracks...cuz the freight train is comin!!!!...

(ok, bad analogy, I admit)

Linda wrote on Oct 27, 2008 11:33 AM:

So when will the locals get to go to work. Yeah right.

Kari wrote on Oct 27, 2008 11:04 AM:

Wow, Old Braddock came through with his promises of Jobs, Jobs, Jobs didn't he?

OOPS?

Looks like the Frenchmen are coming, The Frenchmen are coming.

Bought some more Snake Oil, didn't ya Coos County? Even the French know you're too stupid to recognize Braddock and His Band of Merrymen , and what they're doing.

Enjoy those "living wage jobs" Coos County Families.
