The Reedsport City Council has narrowed its search for a new city manager to three candidates.

The city is inviting the town’s residents to get to know the applicants at a Meet & Greet event from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Umpqua Discovery Center.

The candidates include Scott Somers, who is an assistant city manager for the city of Savage, Minn.

Douglas County Planning Department’s assistant planner, Jonathon Wright also is in the final three.

The other candidate is John Lechuga, who was formerly employed with Wicks Broadcasting in Reedsport.

The public event will give people a chance to meet the candidates and get to know them.

I do think he would be a better option than our last city manager, but certainly not the best considering he has never been a city manager or city planner. I still hold that we need some new blood in. Reedsport has become stagnant.

Reedsport needs a person exactly like John Lechuga! We need someone who can put a friendly face on the city and run the town like a business, which John is certainly capable.

What experience does John Lechuga have in running a city? Reedsport needs new blood and a new vision. Reedsport needs someone who has experience managing a small town, not someone who is just merely involved in community activities. Reedsport has gone severely downhill and I don't see an end to its problems.
