Springfield’s girls soccer team defeated Marshfield 1-0 Thursday night in a close, emotional match on the Pirates’ Senior Night.
“It was a heartbreaker, it being Senior Night,” said Marshfield coach Kitty DeMoss. “The girls played so tough. It was just a real even game the whole match.”
The Millers scored in the 67th minute when Taryn Urmson sent a high pass across the field and Maya Cambreros sent the ball into the net for the game’s lone goal.
DeMoss said Courtney Lanza and Catherine Bones had solid games on defense, as did Christine Hunter — back from fractured nose — and Cassie Messerle in midfield. Emily Nauman helped the Pirates out as a utility player, despite suffering from an injured ankle.
“They just played awesome, they played tough,” said DeMoss. “They’re a great group of kids. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
