If you are in support of the liquefied natural gas project, please attend the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission meeting the evening of Oct. 27, at the North Bend Community Building. You can be certain that the Citizens Against Virtually Everything people will be there with signs and placards.

It seems that in recent years we have developed an atmosphere where the anti-everything minority has become a group of outspoken people who consequently tend to dominate various issues. However, I believe there is a silent majority out there with busy schedules, just trying to make a living and not wanting to get into a conflict, who don’t get involved. It is time to put out that extra effort and get involved in the LNG discussion. If enough of us speak with our individual voices we will be heard. We have an opportunity and we simply need to reach out and take it.

This LNG terminal is a minimum of a $1.2 billion project and the pipeline is another $1-plus billion. During the construction phase of the terminal alone there will be as many as 1,000 people employed at its peak. Additionally, the pipeline will employ another 600 individuals. This would bring in approximately $10 million per year in property taxes after the first three years. Is employing people and generating property taxes bad for Coos County?

A lot has been said and often misstated about the dangers of bringing in these ships filled with LNG. There has never been a breach of an LNG tanker, therefore one can only estimate what might happen through a scientific model.

Get involved and learn the truth about that. Under current regulations there are more safeguards than one can imagine. We used to have more than 300 ships per year entering our port and now we have about 40 per year. I would think that the longshoremen, tugboat operators and stevedore companies would love to see an additional 70 ships per year enter the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay.

Once again, if you support the LNG project, please attend the Oct. 27 meeting at the community center.

Everyman You do well cutting pasting NO facts about this LNG SCAM wrote on Oct 27, 2008 12:04 PM:

Everyman's motto....if you have NO facts make some up or change the subject! How's Bob Braddock these days...

Wow, you work that "cut" and "paste" feature really well...

I see bob braddocks number one cheerleader everyman is posting again wrote on Oct 23, 2008 3:43 PM:

I've read his "many" posts & have yet to see any quality substance (Nothing he says is ever based/backed by facts) & all he does is try to change the subject (Very old ploy, when someone has little to offer or is losing an arguement)! All I see is someone obviously going to profit somehow from this Lng at Jordan Cove!

This Lng at Jordan Cove makes little sense to me & Oregon (Only winner is California & the rich foreign investors getting richer)! Oregon gets gets all the risk, air pollution & Oregon citizens going to be forced to give up their land (80 ft wide section of it) to foreign investors for a few jobs that no local will qualify for due to high job requirements, such a deal (I can understand why some call this a "scam" also)!

I'm not a "shill"...i don't stand to profit any more than any community member from this LNG Plant. HOWEVER...

I have said before, and gladly state again, this is NOT a silver bullet that will heal the economy of the south coast...but it is a step in the right direction.

Not sure whats the worse scam LNG or Ferc dictatorship wrote on Oct 23, 2008 3:34 PM:

Notice how the Republican party had to pass a law in 2005 by passing individual state rights of placement of this expensive Lng (2 to 3 times more expensive then natural gas coming from the Rockies) in the USA! Probably due to the fact that ONLY 6 of these useless Lng storage units have been successfully put in vs the many more places that have rejected it! Instead of getting less dependent on fossel fuels from foreign countries we are doing the opposite! There's plently of natural gas in the Rockies to supply Oregon's future needs & plently of other ways to produce clean energy (Wave, Wind, Solar, etc. etc.), but here we are with this useless Lng at Jordan Cove! Again, not sure what's the worse SCAM (Lng at Jordan Cove or FERC's dictatorship), because it's a coin toss up for a lose lose situation for Oregon citizens & the entire USA!

CBNative...it's in Baja because we live in the most over-regulated country in the world...and it's far easier to build plants like these where there are fewer regs, cheaper labor, and no oversight.

CBNative wrote on Oct 23, 2008 6:58 AM:

Would you like to tell me why the only LNG terminal on the west coast is in Baja Mexico. Ill tell ya in two words. NO OPPOSITION Do you really think that the LNG that is currently being tapped in Alaska is ever going to find its way here. No especially since Palen just got the go ahead to keep selling to Asia.

everyman wrote on Oct 22, 2008 6:42 PM:

And Sam, you suppose that all the people against LNG coming to this community are anti everything. You both are so wrong. This area would welcome almost any industry to the area, just not this one. Any major project would supply the same jobs that Sam says we will get with LNG. The people tiring to set this up don't care about this town, just the profits. Shills (everyman and others) would have you believe its this or poverty for all of us. anyone that would compare getting LNG by voter approval to what type of car we should drive, has no interest in our community, just PROFIT.

everyman wrote on Oct 22, 2008 2:51 PM:

Thomas, thats a good question, but I wonder where we would draw the line? A new timber outfit logging private land...lets put it up for a vote! A new gas station in town...lets put it up for a vote! What type of car we should drive...up for a vote! Can you see my point? Since when is a private business opening and operating in our community "up for a vote"?

Also, you mentioned putting it to a vote of "the people who are affected"...would that include all the LNG industry folks who have a significant financial stake in this...they are affected, after all...and the construction workers, plumbers, carpenters, etc...who would be building it?

A vote; sure! But be sure it includes EVERYONE affected by this plant, not only the dis-affected ones!

Thomas wrote on Oct 22, 2008 12:16 PM:

If this LNG terminal, which all agree will greatly impact our lives here, is such a good idea ......... then why don't supporters put it to a vote of the people who are effected, rather than have this decision made by unelected folks who aren't?

P.S. I'll be at the meeting against this Lng SCAM that Oregon & the USA doesn't need!
