Coos County property tax statements are in the mail today.

Property owners who have not received their tax bills by the first week of November should contact the county’s tax department, a Coos County Treasurer’s Office press release said.

To avoid late charges, tax payments must be received or postmarked by Nov. 17. Payments can be mailed or paid in person to the Coos County Tax Department, 250 N. Baxter St., Coquille. Tax office hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The total tax due for Coos County in 2008-09 is more that $56.4 million, a 5.8 percent increase over taxes due in 2007-08. The tax money is distributed among cities, school districts, port districts, hospital district and other districts throughout the county, the release said. For more information, those interested can call: 396-3121, ext. 333, for tax payment information; ext. 268 or 300 for assessed value information; and ext. 228 for information on value appeals.
