Car ends up in river after hitting cow

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 |
A vehicle hit a cow along Lower Smith River Road early Saturday morning and ended up in Smith River.
According to a Douglas County Sheriff’s press release, at about 7:08 a.m., a 911 caller reported a car just hit a cow or the driver swerved and missed it. The caller had to go to a nearby residence to make the call since there was no cellular phone service there. While the caller was gone, the driver left the scene.
Later on Saturday, at about 7:49 a.m., an injured cow, thought to have been the one hit in the accident, was reported to be near the 8000 block of Lower Smith River Road.
The vehicle was towed from the river and impounded. Information on who owns the vehicle was sketchy Monday morning.
Sheriff’s Deputy Dwes Hutson said the registered owner of the vehicle wasn’t home and the case is still under investigation.
