Election issues are full of distortions
Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:43 AM PDT

I don’t feel like we have much of a choice this election. I don’t think there is a dime’s worth of difference between our two parties. I’m very tired of half truths, distortions and downright lies on all the issues. Our congress is owned by the special interests and big, big money. Look at our so-called bailout. The greedy big money people win again and we, the taxpayers, get to pay for it.

I did watch all the debates so far and found them well done and interesting, but not necessarily convincing.

So, listen objectively to TV and radio and reading the newspapers. Be especially careful of the Internet, all sorts of opinions and lies are out there, with the intent to confuse and persuade you. We all need to be praying for our great nation and its leaders.

Keep McKeown; he’s a good mayor

Jeff McKeown is a native son who has called Coos Bay his home for most of his life. He raised his family here, pursued his career here and most importantly to the rest of us, has dedicated his time to community service.

A pursuit near and dear to my hear, has been Jeff’s commitment to the youth of our area. His involvement with the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon is well known. His eminent dedication is evidenced by his volunteerism as a SWOYA coach so that my children could enjoy what I never got a chance to experience at their age.

Jeff’s devotion to this area is genuine. The time he has given in pursuit of a more stable, viable, community is immeasurable. He proved to be an astute and dedicated member of the city council and he has been steadfast in his tenure at the helm.

There is unfinished business, to be sure, but Jeff is on the right track. Now is the time to stay on board with one who has stood steadfastly with Main Street America. He’s a good man, he’s a good mayor and we need him.
