Program features Native American traditions

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 |
People interesting in learning more about the local tribes and their traditions, will get an eyeful from 1 to 3 p.m. this Saturday, at the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum.
The North Bend museum will showcase demonstrations by local tribal experts in beading, basket weaving, use of an “atlatl,” and other traditional technologies, and the opportunity to handle authentic ancient artifacts.
Experts from the two local tribes — the Coquille and the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians — will share their expertise and knowledge at this free event. Organizers say it will be an opportunity for families to rediscover local history and learn together. The museum is just south of the McCullough Bridge.
