Powers volleyball team nets big win

Powers got a big win over visiting Elkton in a Skyline League volleyball match on Friday, gaining momentum for the league playoffs.
The Cruisers won 25-22, 14-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-13.
“It was a thrilling match,” said Powers coach Beth Rector. “Elkton’s a tough team. We just had a good night and came out with the win.”
The Elks lost for just the second time in league play.
Nicole Bittner had 15 kills and five blocks for the Cruisers. Kristin Clauson had 19 digs and four aces, while Haley Patterson recorded 18 assists and Sosha Hofsess had three kills.
The Cruisers improved to 7-4 in league play with just a home match against Pacific remaining before the league tournament next weekend.
Pacific falls
Umpqua Valley Christian beat visiting Pacific, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22 on Friday.
The Cruisers were coming off a big win over New Hope and found themselves in an emotional setting.
“UVC had their senior night tonight and they had the same type of amazing night that we had last night, and its hard to compete with that,” said Pacific coach Tiffany Freitag.
Jesse Culley had four kills and eight digs for the Pirates. Devon Ashdown had eight assists, Ashley Curry added four blocks and Cassie Keeler contributed two aces. |
