Area teams place well in Lions tournament

South Coast teams won three of the four divisions in the annual Lions Club eighth-grade volleyball tournament, a 32-team event held last weekend in the Bay Area.
North Bend beat Sunset Blue for the championship in Class 3A, while Trinity won Class 2A over Myrtle Point and Blanco won the Class 1A crown.
The top local team in Class 4A, Coquille, reached the semifinals before eventually finishing fifth.
The sportsmanship awards went to Fremont of Roseburg for Class 4A, Siuslaw for Class 3A, Trinity Lutheran for Class 2A and Redwood of California for Class 1A.
The top squads in each bracket are listed in today’s Community Scoreboard.
