Marshfield rallied to beat host Churchill, 21-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-14, 15-12, keeping sole possession of first place in the Midwestern League volleyball standings.
Marshfield coach Tammie Montiel said the difference in the match came when libero Brittney Young entered after sitting out the first two games while nursing a wrist injury.
“We felt like we needed to have her in there,” Montiel said. “I think just having her out there, she’s such a floor leader ... having her back on there made a big difference.”
Jessica Hockema had 24 kills, 25 digs and three blocks for Marshfield, while Kara Young had 16 kills, three aces and 17 digs and Nikki Gross had 45 assists.
The Pirates host their own invitational on Saturday before finishing league play next week with matches at Willamette and at home against Springfield.

Bobcats beat Glide
Myrtle Point defeated Glide on the road in an important win to solidify ownership of the fourth-place spot in the Sunset Conference. The Bobcats won the match 25-15, 25-18, 27-25, avenging a Sept. 23 loss when Myrtle Point let the Wildcats come from behind to steal the match.
“I almost thought that’s what we were going to do last night,” said Myrtle Point coach Kami Hixson. “But we actually stepped up and came from behind and got the win (in the third game).”

Nicole Bittner had nine kills, five blocks and three aces for the Cruisers. Kristin Clauson and Sosha Hofsess each had five kills and Haley Patterson had 19 assists and four aces.
“We just did a good job as a team,” said Powers coach Beth Rector. “The ball was distributed evenly.”
The Cruisers, now 6-4, are guaranteed a spot in next weekend’s league tournament, but would get a big momentum boost with a win over the second-place Elks today.
