Sean Jany and Sam Lynass each scored two goals as North Bend’s boys soccer team beat visiting Douglas 7-0 on Tuesday.

Kyle Deming, Jeramy Dubisar and Brady Snelgrove had the other goals for the Bulldogs.

“We just passed the ball really well today,” said North Bend coach Blaine Deming. “I hope we keep it up for Thursday.”

North Bend plays its final home match on Thursday against Pacific. The Bulldogs moved back into a tie for first place in the Far West League with Brookings-Harbor at 7-1-0.

Michael Hoover had his first assist. Deming and Dubisar had two assists each.

“Our defense just passed the ball well,” Deming said.

North Bend also kept the Trojans from having any shots on goal.

Devils get big win

Coquille topped visiting South Umpqua 7-1, keeping alive its hopes for a first-ever playoff berth.

“This was one of our most complete games of the year,” said Coquille coach Randy Lucas. “We knew they defeated the league leaders in North Bend, so we came out with all guns blazing.”

Ryan Dannels had five of Coquille’s seven goals. He scored in the sixth minute on an assist by Mauro Sakuma, and then in the 17th on the first of three assists from German Ferrer. Cole Waddington scored off an assist by Dannels to give the Red Devils a 3-0 halftime edge.

Dannels scored two minutes into the second half before the Lancers got their only goal, from Timmy Wilson. Dannels then got goals in the 50th minute, with an assist from Waddington, and in the 67th minute on a 25-yard blast. Martin Gonzales had the final goal, his first of the season, on a rebound in the 78th minute.

Goalie Jeff Veysey had a strong night with 10 saves for Coquille.

“The boys knew this was a make-or-break game, and they stepped up their intensity, knowing a loss here could really hurt our playoff chance,” Lucas said.

Coquille improved to 4-3-1, alone in fourth place in the league standings.

Midwestern League

Lancers shut out Pirates

Churchill beat visiting Marshfield 9-0 in a Midwestern League match on Tuesday.

Marshfield coach Tony Preston was pleased with his team’s effort against the league’s best squad.

“We’re staying together, playing as a team, and keeping our heads up,” he said. “We’re in a tough situation and we’re making the best of it. We can still place fourth in league.”

The Pirates still face Springfield and Willamette, the teams below them in the standings.

“We’re going to look forward to those two games, and really try to solidify fourth place,” Preston said.

He credited Logan Emlet and Kelley Kennedy, a pair of players from the junior varsity squad, with having strong matches, along with veterans Forrest Rambo and Wes Keller. Goalie Daniel Chavez had 10 saves.

“(Churchill) is a tough team,” Preston said of the Lancers, many of whom have been playing together since they were kids. “You can’t coach experience.”

Far West League

Bulldogs win

North Bend got two goals by Amelia Liggett and beat host Douglas 2-0 on Tuesday.

Liggett scored in the 20th minute on a shot into the upper part of the net and added a penalty kick in the 50th minute.

“She had a great game,” said North Bend coach Dustin Hood, adding that the entire squad gave a great effort in the win.

“I was happy with our whole team,” he said.

Lancers win

Victoria Jackson had four goals and Vanessa Jackson had four assists as the Lancers beat Coquille 10-0 Tuesday to keep pace with Brookings-Harbor atop the league standings.

Kristina Hale scored two goals, while Lindsey Goodson, Wendy Stone and Kiah McConnell also scored for the Lancers. Goalie Shay Harvey moved out of the net into the field and also scored.
