North Bend beat visiting Sutherlin, 25-17, 25-12, 25-21, in a Far West League volleyball match on Thursday.

Haley Dunham had 13 kills, 16 digs, three blocks and seven aces to lead North Bend.

“She just served up a storm,” said North Bend coach Les Willett.

Alexandra Mateski had 13 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, while Jodi Smartt had five kills and six blocks and Blair Davis had four kills and three blocks.

“We had a lot of blocks tonight,” Willett said.

Setter Katie Banta had three kills, 13 digs, 31 assists and four aces.

“I think it was the best we’ve hit as a team,” Willett said. “Six different girls with kills.

“It was the best we looked. We passed the ball a lot better tonight than we had been.”

Amanda Hutchings had four kills, four blocks and 18 digs for Sutherlin. Danielle Hults had 17 assists and 26 digs. Mikayla Mendehall had five kills and 27 digs.

North Bend kept pace with Douglas for second place in the league standings at 5-2 heading into Thursday’s home match with Brookings-Harbor.

North Bend finishes the regular season with matches at Douglas and at home against league-leading Siuslaw next week.

Vikings rout Lancers

Siuslaw beat visiting South Umpqua 25-3, 25-20, 25-17 on Tuesday to stay perfect in league play.

The Vikings got 16 straight service points from McKenzie Mumpower in the first game, including two of her four aces on the night, while building a 17-0 lead.

Shelbey McClellan had 12 kills and Tammy Flood had seven kills and 14 digs for the Vikings, who improved to 7-0, and host Douglas on Thursday. The Trojans share second place with North Bend at 5-2.

Douglas tops Bruins

Douglas beat host Brookings-Harbor, 25-11, 25-22, 25-16.

Courtney Bush had 12 kills, two stuff blocks and two aces for the Trojans. Alaina Findlay had nine kills, 18 assists and two aces, and Stacia Blankenship had five kills.

Dani Olson had seven kills and three blocks for the Bruins. Nicole Watterson had six kills and four blocks and Breanne Manley had 21 digs.

Midwestern League

Pirates win

Marshfield beat visiting North Eugene, 25-7, 25-17, 25-11 to stay alone in first place in the Midwestern League standings.

Nikki Gross had five aces and 15 assists for the Pirates. Natalie Caffey had six aces and four kills; Kara Young had four kills, four aces and seven digs; and Jessica Hockema had five kills.

“I felt they played pretty well after just kind of being out of sorts last Wednesday when they played Thurston,” said Marshfield coach Tammie Montiel.

She said the Pirates didn’t have a great practice Monday, but came through in the match.

“I was a little concerned about whether they’d be focused and they did a good job,” she said. “We talked about not letting the other team score big runs of points ... and they did a good job with that. They stayed up the whole game and didn’t have mental lapses and emotional lapses and the errors that we’ve sometimes had.”

McKenzie Mayberry had four kills and six digs for the Highlanders.

Marshfield is at Churchill on Thursday and then hosts the first-ever Marshfield Invitational on Saturday.

Sunset Conference

Devils beat Bobcats

Coquille came back from a one-game deficit to beat host Myrtle Point, 15-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-19.

“Coquille really stepped it up,” said Myrtle Point coach Kami Hixson. “They did a good job.”

The Red Devils got 11 kills each from Allison Cook, Stephanie Jones and Nikki Hall. Jones also had three aces. Chelsey Forbes had 36 assists and 10 digs and Lindsey Cooper had 20 digs.

Sam Sanders had 13 assists, eight kills and 27 digs for the Bobcats. Erin Fullerton added 13 kills and 11 blocks, and Shirah Stidham had 22 digs. Tiffany Meyer had 11 assists, three kills and five blocks.

The Red Devils moved two games in front of the Bobcats with three to play in the race for third place in the final league standings, improving to 7-4.

Braves win

Reedsport swept visiting Bandon, 25-23, 25-13, 26-24 in one of the Braves’ best matches of the season.

“We played a lot better,” said Reedsport coach James Hixenbaugh. “We played like we knew we could play.”

Camille Tisler had 10 kills, 11 digs and two aces for the Braves. Kim Church had 10 kills, Chelsea Hitchcock had 27 assists and Jessica Cooper had eight kills and two blocks.

Briana Valentine had eight kills and two digs for the Tigers. Grace Garrett added four kills, six blocks and eight digs; and setter Jordan Tipton had 12 assists, an ace and 10 digs.

Challengers top Panthers

Cascade Christian kept up an impressive run of sweeping every Sunset Conference foe, beating visiting Gold Beach 25-23, 25-9, 25-17.

The Challengers scored the final six points of the first game on serves by Hannah Brewster of the first game and then cruised to easy wins in the other two.

Brewster finished with 15 digs, while Becca Sellers had 22 kills and 15 digs and Breanna Holtz had 31 assists.

Molly Hockema had 12 kills and Rendall MacLaurie recorded 24 assists for the Panthers, who dropped to 8-3, but remain in second place.

Chieftains edge Glide

Rogue River slipped past visiting Glide,  23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 15-25, 15-12.

McKenzie Cates had 12 digs, four aces and three kills, while Sabrina Smith had eight kills and three blocks for the Chieftains.

Skyline League

Pirates fall

Canyonville Christian topped host Pacific, 12-25, 25-8, 28-26, 25-16 in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

“We had an amazing first game,” said Pacific coach Tiffany Freitag. “We were relaxed. We were confident. The whole team contributed.”

After that, the Pirates struggled, Freitag said.

Cassie Keeler had five aces for Pacific. Devon Ashdown had nine assists and nine digs, Jesse Culley had five kills, and Ashley Curry had four kills and two blocks.
