Managing Alzheimer’s

Drug dangers
The Coquille Seventh-day Adventist Church will present an anti-drug event at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, 1015 N. Cedar Point Road. Participants can hear firsthand accounts of the tragedy and sorrow that comes from the use of drugs, and learn how to spot “danger signals” of drug use in their children. Admission is free. Stolen land
The Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library will sponsor a book discussion with author Bette Husted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Coos Bay Public Library’s Myrtlewood Room. Husted’s book, “Above the Clearwater: Living on Stolen Land” tells the tale of growing up on land that belonged to the Nez Perce Indians. This event is free and open to the public. Treasure sale
A Trash and Treasure Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The sale will be held at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge on Lee Valley Road, on Highway 42.
Stamp club meeting
The Coos Stamp Club will meet at 2 p.m. Friday in the Cedar Room of the Coos Bay Public Library. The new A.P.S. Circuit books will be available for members, as well as stamp items. For more information, call John Day at 267-3338.

Celebrating volunteers
The Coos County Retired Senior and Volunteer Program is celebrating 30 years of serving Coos County. A celebration and fundraiser will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute. Activities include dinner, dancing and raffles.
