•  Why are you running?

I feel that there should be different age groups in all public offices, from the city level to the state level. The majority of elected/appointed officials are in the 50-plus age group. I believe that the younger people need a voice on the Coos Bay city council as well.

•  What do you see as the key issues in the race?

The No. 1 issue would be family wage jobs. The proposed LNG terminal. The citizens of Coos Bay would like to know where each candidate stands. Take care of our veterans and seniors. Listen to the citizens of Coos Bay. Keep our young people here.

•  What would you like to see happen at the Hollering Place?

I think we should use the Hollering Place as a viewpoint. We should place something there that tells people about the area and what kind of marine life is in the bay.

•  What do think is the solution to the situation involving Southwestern Oregon Community College refusing to pay for police services?

I think that the city of Coos Bay should use the school resource officer at the college as well. The dean of students can then report all incidents to the school resource officer.

•  What do you think about the proposal to construct an LNG terminal on the North Spit?

I would say “no” to the proposed LNG terminal. I don’t feel it would help this area, and there are no guarantees it would be safe.

•  If the Presbyterian church site falls through, where do you think a fire station should be built?

I think the best site would be at the Presbyterian church. However, if that fails, I think the large site on South Fourth Street, next to Huggins Insurance would work.

•  What ideas do you have for improving the city's urban renewal districts?

To extend the boundaries of the district.

•  How would you rate the performance of the current city council?

I don’t feel I can rate the performance of the current city council, because I haven’t been to enough city council meetings.

•  What do you think about the city annexing Bunker Hill or any other county land?

I think it would be great for Coos Bay to annex Bunker Hill, Charleston and Barview. I think it should also be left up to the citizens of those areas.

•  How should the city pay for the $42 million in repairs to the wastewater treatment and sewer system?

I have to say “no” to any new taxes. I think the city of Coos Bay should apply for a grant from the state.
