Book studies Coos County schools

The Bandon Historical Society Museum will host a book signing by author Bill Lansing of Coos Bay from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
Lansing has written three books on the history of Coos County, the latest “Remember When: Coos County Schools 1859-1940.”
At the beginning of the museum program, he’ll present a slide show and discuss his latest work. Questions from the audience will then be taken.
Lansing grew up on a small ranch in Northern California, but considers himself an Oregonian. He and his wife, Ann, have lived in Coos Bay since 1969. They have two grown sons.
The author retired from his position as president and chief executive officer of Menasha Forest Products Corp. two years ago.
“Remember When - Coos County Schools 1859-1940” captures the flavor of the original schools that were scattered throughout the county, the author said in a press release. His extensive research included interviews with more than 150 people. The 200-page book also includes more than 200 historical photographs, a press release said.
