North Bend was missing several football players from last week’s game against Sutherlin for disciplinary reasons, and might be again this week.

But don’t expect to hear anything about it from school officials.

Superintendent BJ Hollensteiner said district officials can’t discuss discipline of students because of confidentiality laws.

“Anything that deals with academics or behavior is confidential,” Hollensteiner said. “That’s confidential student record.”

Comments posted on an online sports blog last week suggested that several players had been at a party, which prompted suspensions for last Friday’s game.

Hollensteiner said district officials are not allowed to disuss the rumors.

“It’s confidential,” she said. “We just can’t talk about it.”

Hollensteiner said the school district is following state and federal law under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

“The way the law is written, if information can in any way be traced back to a student or group of students, we can’t give that information because that would be a violation of confidentiality — it’s student records law,” she said.

JUST AN OBSERVER - perhaps if you had made an intelligent statement to begin with ..... what in tarnation does all of your cookie-cutter "I hate Bush" rhetoric have to do with kids getting into trouble?

Thanks, though, for reinforcing the current left wing lunacy that is prevalent these days..job well done!

Please read all that preceded my comments to get a sense of context, then perhaps you can make an intelligent reply.

JUST AN OBSERVER is crazy....can't seem to shake the urge to blame EVERYTHING that happens on the Bush Administration...laughable.

I strongly suspect Bush was not involved with this particular incident.

Their kids. Uptight parents, don't think you were once young and trying new things? Accountability? Let them get some of it out now, so when they go off to college, they won't just go wild, unrestrained for the first time ever, then end up living back home with you. Elders, get off your high horse, we'll be the ones that have to take care of you in the nursing homes.

Say what??? I think you would worry more about the rightwingnuts who sold us a bill of goods on Iraq, who sold us down the river with their lack of regulation in the financial services industry and who sell out to the highest corporate bidder. The Republican record from Bush's swearing in to the present day is not a good one.

That said, if anyone wants to know what players were suspended, just compare the starting lineup in tonight's game with the earlier starting lineups.

Last I looked, the GOP pretty much ran Congress for most of the time since Reagan came to office. Even now when the GOP is in tbe minority, they can still filibuster and uphold Bush's vetos. Put blame where it belongs!

I find it funny that when this happened to six Marshfield athletes, their administrators blatantly commented in ways that could definately link back to the students. Putting their futures at risk. What happens when those students move on to the workforce in this community and are asked by their employer, "Uhh, Aren't you the one who was suspended for being at a drinking party?"

To Odotter, I think this is a situation where this act does some good. Teenagers don't deserve to be defamed in front of their community. It's not right. And I admire Hollensteiner for protecting these students futures, unlike how Marshfield administrators defamed their athletes and president.

Keep in mind that these young men are still CHILDREN! Just because they play football in high school and are held to a high standard doesn't mean that they are not going to make mistakes. Hopefully these young men (I do know most of them personally because my husband coached last year under Bill Masei) have learned from this mistake and don't do it again. I know for a fact that the boys on that team are wonderful young men. Period! Get your heads back in the game boys! Get over it NB/CB.

Whether it be Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the insane Health Insurance Portability and ccountability Act or any other pack of lies and deceit passed by the leftists who have taken over Congress and state legislatures it does Americans not one bit of good.

Lawyers dominate all levels of government, packing every bit of legistlation with new ways for personal gain.

There is no accountability.

Hollensteiner and his ilk are so proud of themselves because they hide like cowards and come off looking like sweet saints.

Find an honest person and they'll be shut up and shut down by the left.
