Police investigate counterfeit bills case

Coos Bay police want help nabbing people who have been using counterfeit $100 bills.
As of Monday, at least five counterfeit $100 bills had surfaced at local Coos Bay and North Bend banks.
Coos Bay Police Detective Scott Rogers recommends business owners take every precaution when faced with a potential fake bill.
“If a business owner suspects the passed bill is a fake, they should immediately call police, and try to safely stall the customer if possible until police arrive,” he said in a press release.
He also suggested business owners take care when processing $20 bills, which are another denomination frequently counterfeited.
“By taking a few extra seconds per transaction to verify a bill’s authenticity, a business owner can save themselves money and time spent reporting fraudulent transactions,” he said.
