The owner of a parcel of land that years ago held the Coos Head Pulp Mill said plans to build a 185-unit residential property are still moving forward despite a nearly two-year delay.

Robin Stevenot, who owns the land near Cape Arago Highway, said the project — to build a development that will include a marina, travel agency, boat mooring, a restaurant and other features —  has not perished.

“The development is still going through as initially planned,” she said.

A Coos County Planning Department spokeswoman said Stevenot or her representatives have not filed any permits or new information with the office since 2006. The next step they would need to take would be to submit road name applications and submit final plats to create the community. Neither have been received. After that process, they would be able to pursue zoning compliance to build.

According to Martin Abts, a natural resource specialist for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, developers of a project larger than an acre would need to submit applications for storm water permits. He was unaware of any applications for the property.

Stevenot purchased the property in 2003, but plans to build a residential community on the site were held up by objections from the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition. The Coos County Board of Commissioners finally approved the development project in May 2006.

One wonders if sea levels rising or LNG tankers passing haven't already made this an non-penciling project?
