PORTLAND (AP) — The family of an Oregon man who died after being pinned under a riding lawnmower has filed a $3.7 million lawsuit against the dealer and manufacturer.

Roger Sackman of Wilsonville died almost two weeks after the mower overturned in the spring of 2006. The lawsuit filed in Multnomah County says doctors amputated the 50-year-old man’s legs and lower trunk in a futile effort to save his life.

The suit claims the mower built by Wisconsin-based Scag was designed without rollover protection or a device to reduce the likelihood of a rollover. The suit also names dealer Moen Machinery of Gresham.

Another stupid lawsuit, the country should sue this family for wasting the courts time. Lawnmowers just don't tip over. If you ride them on too steep a hill, common sense says they will tip over. I feel sorry for this family and their loss, but really the lost was simply and accident created by someone doing something they should not have done, end of story.
