Local musical and dance groups will perform and local artisans will offer their wares for sale Saturday at Octoberfish, a benefit for the Charleston Food Bank.
Octoberfish is an all-day festival of local food, music, art and wisdom, according to organizer Shannon Souza.
“This is a celebration of Coos culture,” Souza said.
The event will take place from noon to 10 p.m. at the old Charleston Elementary School, 5200 Seven Devils Road. It features children’s activities, including putt-putt golf, an apple cider press and solar crafts. Other booths offer renewable energy information and an opportunity to register to vote.
The cost for admission is $2 per person, $5 per family, or two cans or boxes of food per person, with all proceeds going to the food bank.
Tuna dinners will be served by The Tuna Guys ($10 each or $25 for a family), and the High Tide Café is sponsoring a beer and wine garden.
Bands will perform throughout the day on an outdoor stage and will continue into the evening hours inside the school.
In addition, West African drumming and dancing classes, taught by Alseny Yansane and Andrea DiPalma, will be offered at a cost of $15 each. The drumming class will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and the dancing class follows from 11:30 to 1 p.m. For more information, visit
