Wednesday, October 8, 2008 11:09 AM PDT

More people seem to be wearing seat belts.

That’s the North Bend Police Department’s conclusion following a seat belt safety blitz.

During the 14-day blitz, which ran Sept. 8-21, officers contacted 270 drivers for a various violations concentrating on safety belt, safety seat and speed-related violations. Additionally, officers issued two suspended drivers citations and made two driving under the influence of intoxicants arrests.

North Bend police conduct surveys for safety belt compliance approximately one week before the blitz and one week after each blitz. Pre-blitz surveys showed that 98 percent of the drivers wore safety belts. Post surveys showed a one percent increase, with 99 percent of the drivers wearing the restraints.
