Tuesday, October 07, 2008 | No comments posted.
The Coos Bay School District is opening its buildings for residents to tour to learn more about the district’s effort to pass a school improvement bond measure.
District voters will consider Ballot Measure No. 6-120 on the Nov. 4 general election ballot. The $59.5 million, 25-year bond measure calls for the construction of two new elementary schools at the sites of Madison Avenue Elementary School and the closed Eastside Elementary School.
The district wants to make major upgrades and renovations to improve health, safety and security, upgrade aging infrastructure and improve operating efficiencies to reduce costs at existing buildings, a press release said.
The district will offer tours of school buildings, which range in age from 45 to 85 years, with the exception of Sunset Middle School and the math/science building at Marshfield High School. The tours will be conducted by Joel Smallwood, the District’s maintenance supervisor, from 9 to 11 a.m. on the following dates.
n Saturday: Millicoma Middle School and Eastside Elementary, meet at the front entrance at Millicoma.
n Oct. 18: Madison Avenue Elementary and Blossom Gulch, meet at the front entrance at Madison.
n Oct. 25: Marshfield High School, meet at the front entrance to the main building.
