I never new Howard Johnson as a coach, or as a Bishop. I did see him passing through the halls at church with his ever present smile, and an introduction and kind word. He loved everyone and made sure they knew it. He had an incredibile quality that all of us need to strive for. To his wife and children, I know you will miss him. But only for awhile because I am sure that you will all be together again. As in this life, he is spreading love to everyone he comes in contact with now.

Howard Johnson lived life on so many stages. As a Bishop, he was my mentor and friend. After my family's first Christmas in our house on Oak Street, he stopped by to let me know he thought my kids would enjoy Christmas with a lot more lights on the house. He gave me several buckets of lights! Then he commented each year on how much he enjoyed them too. He lived for others, he lived great! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mary Mae.

MaryMae, do you know how fortunate you are to have had a marriage for over 50 years to a man that so many people love and respected. He was like a father to me, he was so Honest, kind, giving, and respectful. A man with the best smile he always wore. I am a better person for having known him and you. I miss him more than you know but am so grateful for the years of having him as my friend. I know if he were here he would tell me to wipe away the tears and be happy so thats what I'm trying to do. Mr. Johnson was the althletic director when I went to the school. I had him for weight training. He was caring and understood us. He made it fun. He was always one of my #1 favorites. Condolences to Mrs. Johnson. She was my brothers Kindergarten teacher and a genuinly nice person as well.

I played ball for coach Johnson for three years and what he taught me on the field also carried over to my life off the field.I never thought about thanking him for he leadership and direction and regret that i never did.
So to the family I now say thank you for sharing your husband and dad with all of us through the years.

This news hit me hard. I love Coach Johnson, haven't seen him in years, but his effect on my life has been immeasurable. There's not enough space, not enough words to describe one of the greatest men I've ever known.

I haven't had contact with Coach Johnson since my "playing days" in the mid 80's. I know he was and remained a very kind and caring man. He made a difference in the lives of litterally thousands and lived a life of generosity for the benefit of others. May he rest in peace.

Just hearing the name HOWARD JOHNSON stirs up great memories of High School and our foot ball seasons. He was a great motivator and held the respect of teen agers and their parents alike. This world needs more people like Coach Johnson in it. North Bend was blessed to have him.

My condolences to the Johnson family during this time. Although Mr. Johnson's spirit will greatly be missed, it will never be forgotten. I can say the same as many of the people before me. But mostly I'd like to say thanks to Mr. Johnson, for seeing good in me when some might not of. That is what hits me the most! There were some, but few teachers who could do that, and he was one. Mr. Johnson will be dearly missed. Although having lost contact since moving to Oklahoma, his effect on my life will last forever. He was the first coach to show confidence in my ability to perform, a lesson that I have used as a guide in my career in coaching and education. God bless.

I am so sorry to hear of Howard Johnson's passing. My heart goes out to his family. It has been nearly 20 years since the last time I spoke with Howard, but he left a life long impression with me. I looked up to him like a father, never wanting to disapoint him on the field or in the class room.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a very dear man to me. He was a wonderful Mentor while I was growing up and then even more so when my oldest son attended NBHS. He was then a Mentor to my son Kris.
Anytime I ever saw Mr. Johnson he would always have a big smile, and a warm hug for me.

I played in the first football game that he coached at North Bend and will never forget the inspirational, emotional talk he gave before that first game about his father. I have not kept in contact with Coach Johnson for many, many years and yet I was brought to tears by the news of his passing. I loved the man and would have run through a brick wall for him. So many life lessons that I still practice today were taught to me by Coach Johnson. "It is better to be an hour early then a min. late." Never giving up. Respect of ourselves and love of our teammates. He was a great man with unquestioned integrity. He was a man that every young man could look to as a father figure. To all the Johnson family my prayers and thoughts are with you.

Wow, I'm saddened by this. I played for Howard back in 80's. Howard was someone who bled brown and gold...he was a Bulldog through and through. He was one of the good guys

Howard Johnson was an excellent role models for students and his athletes. He touched the lives in a positive way for so many. My dream in college was to return to North Bend and coach with Howard because of the influence he and the rest of the coaches had on my coaching career and life life in general. This is a sad day for the Bulldogs.

North Bend has lost a truly great advocate for the school and the sport programs. All we, who knew the man and especially, who played for the man, feel the lost deeply. He was a friend, mentor, coach, bishop and stake president to me. This is a very sad day for me and this community! Howard Johnson is a great man and will be missed dearly by this community! I will always be thankful for him reaching out to me when I was right out of high school and giving me the reassurance and confidence to excel at the next level in football and life. And I say this because he was not even my coach, I played for Marshfield. As I got older and got to know Howard, his family and players that had played for him, I understood fully why this man had impacted so many lives and why he had reached out to me! He was a very caring, loving and giving individual. My family and I would like to extend our deepest condolences out to Howard’s family at this trying time. You are in our prayers and thoughts!

A great loss for the North Bend Community. Coach Johnson was such an inspiration to so many young people. Some of my fondest football memories are of Coach J opening up his home to the players to eat a huge meal of spaghetti or burgers and enjoy Monday night football. My condolences go out to his famnily for their loss.

So sorry to hear about Coach Johnson's passing. He was a great man and a great coach. He cared about his players and taught them to be respectful young men. With Howard in Heaven, I 'm guessing God asked for the angels to run one more draw play on third and long just for Howard.
