Remembering Patsy

Twenty-seven songs and 10 costume changes unfold the story of Patsy Cline and Louise Seger in “Always ... Patsy Cline.”

In 1961, when Cline (Shirley Kintner) went to Houston for a show, Seger (Pam de Jong) and her buddies arrived about an hour-and-a-half early and, by coincidence, met Cline, who was traveling alone.

The two women struck up a friendship that was to culminate in Cline spending the night at Seger’s house and a friendship that lasted until Cline’s untimely death in 1963.

Seger supplies a narrative while Cline floats in and out of the set singing tunes that made her famous: “Anytime,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “She’s Got You,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Crazy,” to name a few.

The show’s final performances will run tonight and Sunday. Tonight’s show starts at 7:30 and Sunday’s matiness is at 2 p.m.

Directed by Don Williston and produced by Jeff Norris, tickets are on sale now at Bandon True Value, Hennick’s Home Center, Bandon Mercantile and the Sprague Theater box office, at 347-7426.

Love letter

The Pistol River Concert Association presents Tracy Grammer at 8 p.m. at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24194 Carpenterville Road in Pistol River.

Grammer rose to acclaim as one half of the duo Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. Called “one of the fastest-rising acts in folk music” by the Boston Globe, the duo released three internationally acclaimed albums featuring Carter’s award-winning postmodern, mythic Americana song craft.

Just as the duo seemed poised to receive much-deserved mainstream recognition, Carter died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 49, a press release said.

Three years later, Grammer released “Flower of Avalon.” Working as the album’s co-producer, singer and instrumentalist, Grammer digs deep into the spirit of Carter’s poetic verses and haunting melodies to color each song with textures that blur the boundaries of categorization, a press release said. The result is a bold, rewarding and transcendent love letter to the world.

Tickets are $15 and available at Mory’s Words and Pictures in Brookings, and at Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach. Tickets may also be reserved online at http://www.pistolriver.com or by calling (541) 247-2848.
