North Bend finished off the preseason on a high note Friday night in the Bulldogs’ first road game of the season, handily defeating Sweet Home 34-14.

North Bend finished the first quarter even at 14 with the Huskies, then scored in each of the following periods while shutting Sweet Home out the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs rolled up 489 yards of total offense running the option, 386 of it coming on the ground.

“The ground game was real tough,” said North Bend coach Rick Taylor. “And I was real happy with us defensively. They completed some long passes in the first quarter and then didn’t complete another pass the rest of the game. We made some scheme adjustments and it really helped.

“I just was really pleased with the kids.”

Quarteback Dalton Iveans connected twice with tight end Bryce Weidman for touchdown passes, one for 18 yards and another for 20. Running back Cameron Seiger rushed for 183 yards on 12 carries with a pair of touchdowns of his own. The Bulldogs’ final score came on an 8-yard touchdown run from Cody Harden.

All this while North Bend’s defense held Sweet Home to 176 yards of total offense. The Huskies’ touchdowns came on passes from Keenon Martin to Kevin McGuyre, one for 47 yards and again for 15 yards. Both came in the first quarter, and North Bend adapted.

The Bulldogs also had some big plays called back on penalties: an 85-yard kick return from Seiger, a 22-yard touchdown from Jake Lucero and two other touchdowns. Taylor said he thought without those penalties the team may have had more than 600 yards of offense.

“We really had a great day offensively. It was pretty amazing,” said Taylor.
