Youth Sports: Area students advance to Punt, Pass & Kick sectional

The annual NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition drew 24 boys and one girl to Pete Susick Stadium at Marshfield High School on Sept. 14.
Under sunny skies with a slight breeze, the competitors competed for spots in the upcoming sectional competition.
Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon officials said the participants did a great job and exhibited outstanding sportsmanship.
Henry Scolari (boys 8-9), Andrew Sharp (boys 10-11), Ronnie Walter (boys 12-13), Sye Yates (boys 14-15) and Jerusha Forsberg (girls 10-11) advanced to the sectional event.
Club officials extended thanks to Bo DeForest, Jody Bohannan, Russell Hartley, Darren Drops and Mike Gray for assisting with the competition.
Results are listed in today’s Community Scoreboard.
Pre for Kids
The Pre Run for Kids will be held Sunday, starting at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Coos Bay.
Boys & Girls Club staff will be on hand on Second Street behind the Coos Art Museum beginning at noon for registration and check-in.
All boys and girls in grades 1 through 8 are eligible to participate. The entry fee is $10.
The race is sponsored by BNT Promotional Products, Pepsi and Columbia Dist.
Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each grade level. All participants will receive a certificate (delivered to their school), a Pepsi product and a BNT chap stick.
Coaches meeting
A meeting will be held Wednesday for all volunteer coaches in the Boys & Girls Club’s soccer and flag football programs.
Soccer coaches should arrive at the club by 6:30 p.m. and flag football coaches by 7 p.m. All coaches will receive game schedules, shirts and picture packets. The meetings also include a question-and-answer session on rules.
Official training
All Boys & Girls Club soccer officials will have a training meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Boys & Girls Club.
Training for football officials also is Wednesday, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Games for both sports start Sept. 27. To confirm attendance for the training, officials should call Karen Bauder at 267-6573.
