A North Bend man died after jumping off the McCullough Bridge at North Bend on Wednesday.

U.S. Coast Guard rescuers were called to the scene shortly before 10 a.m., but people fishing in the bay had plucked the man out of the water and took him to shore.

North Bend police did not know the man's age or town of residence.

He was taken to Bay Area Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released the man's identity pending notification of his family.

According to a police dispatcher, the man had climbed up the middle of the bridge and jumped off after officers arrived around 9:50 a.m. The dispatcher didn’t know who notified police about the man.

Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Dan Latham said the man was not one of the workers doing restoration work on the bridge.

Hello, my heart goes out to you all. I understand the loss of a child and I know the grief you are facing. Take care of yourselves, sleep, eat, and drink water as often as you can so you can deal with the loss for the next day. Strangely as it is...I found comfort from others who came to me at work and told me of their losses. I found I was not alone and it helped with my own coping.
Love,
Jodie

Its very sad to think this person was so depressed to take his own life. I can only hope his soul is saved and I will pray for his healing. Maybe if the entire community prays for him he will heal and get help.

My prayers go out to the family of this young man. It is always sad when something like this happens.
