An unidentified man jumped off the McCullough Bridge at North Bend this morning.
U.S. Coast Guard rescuers were called to the scene shortly before 10 a.m., but people fishing in the bay had plucked the man out of the water and took him to shore.
North Bend police did not know the man's age or town of residence.
He was taken to Bay Area Hospital, but police did not have an update on the man’s condition at noon.
According to a police dispatcher, the man had climbed up the middle of the bridge and jumped off after officers arrived around 9:50 a.m. The dispatcher didn’t know who notified police about the man.
Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Dan Latham said the man was not one of the workers doing restoration work on the bridge.
