A funeral and Mass have been scheduled for Lt. Col. James L. Wiley Jr., 46, formerly of North Bend, who died last week in Afghanistan while serving in the U.S. Army.
The Mass begins at 4 p.m. Friday, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th St., in North Bend. The Rev. Karl Schray will preside.
The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in the gym at North Bend High School, 2323 Pacific Ave.
Speakers at the funeral will include Wiley’s wife, Teresa Wiley; Gov. Ted Kulongoski; North Bend Mayor Rick Wetherell; U.S. Army Col. Joseph Cerreto, Wiley’s commander; and Schray.
Oregon Army National Guard Capt. Chris Clyne said Wiley will be presented with several medals, including a bronze star and combat action badge.
Following the Saturday service, a processional will take Wiley to Sunset Memorial Cemetery for burial.
Wiley was serving with the 27th Brigade Combat Team, New York Army National Guard. He died Sept. 18 at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.
Due to the Mass of Christian burial, Holy Redeemer has canceled other previously scheduled activities for Friday night, Schray said. |
