Recruiting volunteers
There will be a SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) volunteer recruitment open house event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Reedsport Public Library, 395 Winchester Avenue.
This is an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the site coordinator positions, or would like to donate one hour of time each week to read to a child. For more information, call 266-7476.
Parenting 101
Southwestern Oregon Comm-unity College is partnering with Lincoln Elementary School in Coquille to present Pathways of Positive Parenting – an educational program funded by the Ford Family Foundation – this fall in Coquille.
The program consists of free family nights that include dinner, child care and opportunities to share parenting techniques and tools.
Each event begins with a free dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a parenting session from 6 to 8 p.m. with child care provided for children 10 and younger.
Sessions are scheduled Tuesdays, Sept. 23 and 30; Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28; and Nov. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Lincoln Elementary School in Coquille. For more information or to register, call Lincoln Elementary School at 396-2811.
Encore computers
The Coquille Valley senior’s computer club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Coquille Senior Center, 265 E. First St. Robert VanDecamp from Encore Computers will present the program.
The purpose of the meeting is for members to share problems and successes about their computers.
Meetings are open to all seniors 50 years old and older, and the cost is $10 per year as a member of the Senior Center. For more information, call Bob Kimball at 396-4971, or Philippa Benson at 396-2629.
Learn square dancing
Square Dance lessons for beginners start at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Elementary School, 1366 N. Gould, Coquille. The first two lessons are free and are instructed by Jim Harris and Coleeta Quigley.
Wednesday
Cruising the highway
The North Bend Public Library will be showing the film “Pacific Coast Highway,” at 2 p.m. Wednesday as part of the Video Voyages series.
This program is free and sponsored by the Friends of the Library. For more information, call 756-0400.
Young artists
Stephanie Tomlin will be teaching classes especially tailored for the young artist, beginning Wednesday and continuing through Oct. 29.
“Drawing 1 for the youth artist” will be held from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The suggested grade level is for kindergarten through second grade.
“Drawing 2 for the youth artist” will be from 5 to 6 p.m. This class is suggested for grades three to six.
The class fee is $30 for CAM members and Boys and Girls Club members, and $45 for non-members. All materials needed are covered by the fee.
