I remain firmly against the building of the LNG terminal in Coos Bay. first on the list os concern for safety. The captain of the port of Coos Bay has already stated his concerns for the narrow channel, and close proximity to airport, residents and schools. If there was a serious breach of gas from either the ship or holding tanks at the upper end of the bay in the summer months....prevaling winds patterns would carry the toxic clouds southward along the city towards Empire, along cape Arago Hway towards Charleston. Say goodbye to tourism forever!!!!

1. Form a group that will go out and find the type of industry that you want here. ( This would be exciting)
2. Then bring them here without tax breaks or incentives.
3. If the jobs and companies that are wanting to come here are not go enough for you all then you must bring in the ones that are.
4. We have waited for you all to bring the jobs in over 30 years. Can you just name one.
Well i am sure i will be called all kinds of names and none the less in capital letters. oh my!
Can you all come up with a new social event to occupy your small thinking. I like how many dimples there are on a golf ball.

Anyways, I don't work at The World (too left-wing, liberal, stalinistic for me), and I honestly didn't even know the other group you mentioned even existed...
I do, however, think that the posturing on BOTH sides of the argument is going a bit overboard...
LNG isn't the DEVIL, but it isn't a silver bullet for the economy of the south coast, either...

1) Engineering plans/drawings of structure in meeting DLCD 2002 Tsunami zone reqrmts.
2) Safety issue of LNG ships having a known 2 mile hazard burn zone & traveling within a 1/2 mile of populated area here.
3) How California & many areas have rejected LNG for being a air polluter.
4) How LNG is 2X more expensive then natural gas used today by Oregon citizens.
5) How Oregon citizens will be FORCED to sell their land to foreign investors.
6) How explosion in Appomattox County, VA could happen here & how explosion at Jordan Cove structure or LNG ship would be MUCH worse.
7) How LNG ship will have negative effect on fishing boats & NEW Airport flights.
8) Finally, talk about how no local will qualify for any of the jobs at Jordan Cove.

And that was not liquified natural gas, it was plain, old natural gas, right?
Latest news a 36 inch Williams pipeline explodes in Appomattox County VA on Sunday wrote on Sep 19, 2008 6:51 AM:
I thought Bob Braddock, Williams & Port Commissioners said this was safe?
Oregon citizens, this was just from a 36 inch pipe, what would happen if the structure at Jordon Cove exploded or worse yet LNG ship exploded???

The meeting was very proper in which the folks that worked for LNG were very very non confrontational. That was the whole point of the meeting to be just plain ole Joes like the rest of us.
You could feel this in the air.
I ask one of the guys why they just didnt step up to the plate & give the property owners, that the gas line crosses a royalty from the money that is made from the gas.
This is what he told me he said well the power company doesnt pay for crossing your property. My comment back to him was that the power helps our neibors & our comunity (not Elko Navada)
I dont understand why the people in the route of the pipeline dont make this part of the deal. ROYALTY ROYALTY ROYALTY. BY the way the man I was talking to just kinda walked off never to talk to me again IMAGINE THAT

At a debate/meeting with Bob Braddock himself with LNG opponents earlier this year, Bob said quote:
This structure at Jordon Cove will withstand a 9.3 earthquake, but wouldn't (or couldn't) offer any engineering plans/drawings proving it, when asked for them! This project at Jordon Cove doesn't meet DLCD 2002 requirements (It was ignored by County the first time around & in LUBA & why it was appealed in LUBA recently/presently. FERC ignored DLCD 2002 requirements also in their report.
Oregon's Dept of Energy report earlier this year, said LNG is TWICE as expensive as natural used today by Oregon citizens & would increase citizens gas bill if used here. Also said if Oregon needs more gas in the future the gas from the Rockies would be cheaper then LNG. Finally concluded Oregon doesn't need LNG.
California & many other areas have rejected LNG for being a air polluter!
LNG also makes the USA MORE dependent of foreign countries.
Add it folks, this California LNG SCAM is a ZERO for Oregon & the USA!
Resident wrote on Sep 17, 2008 7:55 PM:
Did he really say or write somewhere that the pipeline would withstand a 9.0 earthquake? I have been pretty neutral on this until now. That is ridiculous. I doubt that much of downtown Coos Bay (where the public library is built on fill)could withstand an earthquake of that magnitude.
Listen to Bob wrote on Sep 17, 2008 6:29 PM:
Who's Lying here Braddock or the anti-LNG people?
A final decision on the project is expected in late April or early May.
“It’s basically a ‘go’ or ‘no go’ type of decision,” he said.
This will depend on the presidential election. GOP =drill baby drill= LNG yes
Dems = new energy infrastructure for America = LNG no.
Whether the project moves forward depends upon the potential customers for an LNG import terminal. Braddock noted that two other LNG terminal projects are in the FERC application process on the Columbia River. All three are competing for contracts with LNG shippers from around the Pacific Rim.
“If they get built, we will not get built,” he said. “I guarantee that.”
If the opponents get LNG stopped on the Columbia, then we get LNG. That's been the plan all along.

1) Says structure would withstand a 9.0 + earthquake but has NO engineering plans to prove it.
2) Says LNG ships are safe, even though they have a known 2 mile hazard burn zone & would be traveling within 1/2 mile of populated area here.
3) Says he'll hire people, but they'll need eductaion & experience requirements to meet, which no local will meet.
4) Says NOTHING about how LNG is TWICE as expensive as natural gas used today by Oregon residents.
5) Says NOTHING about how Oregon citizens will be FORCED to sell their land so a 36 inch pipeline can go through it on it's 230 mile way to California.
6) Says NOTHING about how LNG ships & site at Jordan Cove will have a negative effect on boating & safety operations of NEW airport.
7) Said from the beginning, if Oregon doesn't want me or LNG, I'll be gone (Every poll says NO to LNG & Dept of Energy in Oregon says NO), but Bob refuses to leave.
How much is Bob's word worth = About as much as his USELESS EXPENSIVE LNG SCAM...
