BANDON — Crazy Craig’s Fine Cars blew into Bandon early last spring with a big maroon awning, a newly paved parking lot full of cars, a brand new showroom and promises of great deals.

On Saturday morning, it blew out of town.

The used car business at U.S. Highway 101 and June Avenue whose claim to fame is “stack ‘em deep, sell ‘em cheap” was all but deserted. The car lot was empty and almost all of the furniture had been removed from the business. Flyers posted in the windows declared, “We have elected to close for the winter.”

An entry on the Bandon Police Department log at 12:34 a.m. on Saturday stated that a woman named Judy, from Eugene-based American Lenders, called to inform the department that her company was in the process of repossessing all the vehicles on the used car lot.

Calls to the business went unanswered, other than a message that stated the business was “temporarily closed for the winter due to the economy.” The woman’s voice went on to say that it intends “to re-open this spring.” Callers were then referred to the Eugene law firm of Muhlheim Boyd LLP, which specializes in commercial bankruptcy cases.

Crazy Craig’s is owned by Craig Petersen and his wife, Larae Petersen. Craig Petersen formerly owned Coos Bay Nissan and has been in the new and used car business for decades.

A message left on the Petersen’s personal answering machine was not returned Tuesday.

The era of easy auto loans is skidding to a halt. Mortgages were among the first consumer products to be hit by the credit-market freeze. Now car loans and leases are drying up as dealers, auto-finance companies and other lenders are having trouble finding money to lend to car buyers. Auto dealers are hurting all over the United States. The local decline also was faster than in other major California markets and in a sampling of other cities.

Anybody know what I shold do with this loaner I was planning to buy from Crazy Craig's?

Is it mine to keep or what? I can't get through to the contact listed in the story.

I'm not surprised; I looked at one of his cars once and found a better deal on the same make/model/color with less mileage in another state.
Including my time to travel, the expense of the travel and licensing it at the Coos DMV, I still saved over 1k buckeroo's
