Highway closed to replace bridge

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 |
On a late-night trip to Eugene tonight?
Avoid state Highway 38.
The Oregon Department of Transportation will close the road at the Elk Creek Tunnel from 9 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Thursday. A contractor will demolish the old bridge that was recently replaced at the west end of the Elk Creek Tunnel.
Detours will be in place during the closure. Motorists heading west from Interstate 5 to Reedsport are advised to take exit 136 (Sutherlin) and follow Highway 138 to Elkton. Motorists traveling east from Reedsport should take Highway 138 from Elkton to I-5.
Local travel will be open between Elkton and the west side of the tunnel and between Drain and the weigh station on the east side of the tunnel. Oregon State Police will be stationed on the highway to enforce the closure.
