Book recommendations
South Coast readers often have different preferences in reading material than those in other parts of the state and United States. Here are the top-five sellers this week at Books By the Bay in North Bend, according to owner Trish Price:
Anything about or by the candidates for president and vice president, particularly “Change We Can Believe in: Barack Obama’s Plan to Renew America’s Promise” by Barack Obama and “Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment Upside Down” by Kaylene Johnson.
“A Supremely Bad Idea: Three Mad Birders and Their Quest to See It All” by Luke Dempsey, who is self-described as “Spinal Tap with binoculars.”
Already optioned for movie rights, “My Husband’s Sweethearts” by Bridget Asher is the quirky story of a woman who calls up all the girlfriends in her cheating husband’s little black book and invites them to take their turns by his deathbed.
“The War Within: A Secret White House History 2006-2008” by Bob Woodward shows the inner workings of a government at war.
“Ripley’s Believe it or Not!: Prepare to be Shocked” is the newest collection of crazy, creepy facts and feats. Kids adore this series!
