COTTAGE GROVE (AP) — A Lane County sheriff’s deputy shot a burglary suspect in the shoulder after he refused to drop a revolver the man pointed at him and other deputies.
The man was hospitalized Saturday night with a non life-threatening wound. His name has not been released.
Deputies were responding to a 911 call from a woman who reported an armed prowler outside her home. The deputy is on routine paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
The shooting activated the Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigations Team for the third time since Sept. 1. The team was created after the Legislature directed each county to develop a consistent investigative response for looking into the use of deadly force Oregon police.
