Kent Kristensen and Chris Vaughn dominated the annual Oregon Chapman tournament at Forest Hills Country Club in Reedsport last weekend, winning by more than 10 shots.

The two South Coast golfers posted a two-day score of 136 — eight under par — in the event, which drew 36 two-man teams.

Kristensen and Vaughn beat Ron Harris and Rich Bernhardt of Eugene by 13 strokes for low-gross honors in the A Flight, which included the top golfers.

Forest Hills members Greg Strowbridge and Alan Wheeler had the best net score in the A Flight, a 128, which was two shots better than Marc and Jason White.

Jason Lavigne and Larry Olson took low-gross honors in the B Flight with a 159, two shots better than John Paullus and Larry Olson.

Floyd Booren and Harvey Myers edged Al Morton and Paul Adams in a scorecard playoff for low-net honors after each team posted a 127.

This week, Forest Hills hosts one of its popular end-of-summer events, the two-day Pizza Rays Seniors tournament, for golfers 50 and older.

Results of the tournament will be included in the Community Sports section next weekend.

Middle school cross country meet

Connor Devereux of Sunset Middle School and Clara Herbage of Riley Creek school were the winners of the middle school division of the Ben Creek Invitational last weekend in Gold Beach.

Devereux finished the 3,000-meter course in 12 minutes and 39 seconds to take top honors for boys, while Herbage crossed the line in 13:55 to win the girls race. The team titles went to Riley Creek’s boys and Harbor Lights’ girls.

Results are listed in today’s Community Scoreboard, along with results from the Road,Lake & Dune middle school meet, won by Mitchell Bradley of Siuslaw.

Masters swim clinic

Local masters swimmers will offer a free clinic on Sunday for people interested in learning how to become a better swimmer.

The clinic will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Mingus Park Pool. Adults interested in improving their swimming skills should bring a suit and towel and plan to get wet.

Participants will be taught how to swim the four competitive strokes and also how to turn during races. Other items include nutrition and training, as well as information about competitive swimming in pools and lakes for all swimmers ages 20 to 90.

The clinic will be put on by four swimmers who participated in the recent Masters National Championships — Denise Stuntzner-Gibson, Jayna Tomac, Karen Matson and Ralph Mohr.
