Road Runs

Prefontaine Memorial Run — Saturday, Sept. 20, starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Coos Bay. The 10-kilometer run honors the memory of the late Steve Prefontaine and is the largest annual sports event on the South Coast. The entry fee is $19 for those who sign up by Sept. 16 and $22 on race day and includes at T-shirt. For more information, or to register online, check www.prefontainerun.com. Registration forms also are available at Huggins Insurance in Coos Bay.

Million Dollar Challenge — Saturday, Oct. 4, starting at 10 a.m. on the boardwalk in downtown Coos Bay. Awards in the 5-kilometer race (or 2.5-kilometer race for younger runners), are based on individual times versus standards set by the Road Runners Club of America and the South Coast Running Club. The entry fee is $6 for adults and $4 for students under 19 through Oct. 3 and $8 after. For more information, call Pete Dawson at 267-6329 or Tracy Fawns at 756-4467.

See Jane Run — Saturday, Oct. 18, starting at 10 a.m. at John Topits Park in Coos Bay. Events for the South Coast Women Only Run and Walk will include a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run or walk and a noncompetitive 1-mile fun walk. Proceeds benefit the Coos Conty Women’s Safety and Resource Center. The entry fee is $17 with a shirt and $6 without for entries postmarked by Oct. 3. The fees then raise to $22 and $10. Entry forms are available at the Women’s Safety and Resource Center, 1681 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay, or by calling 290-3243 or 888-1048.
