Reedsport rolled up nearly 400 yards of total offense and beat host Waldport 51-18 Friday night in a nonleague game.

Keelan McDuffy had 15 carries for 118 yards and scored twice for the Braves. His breakout game came after starting running back Jon Thurber suffered a knee injury in the opening quarter.

Thurber, Jason Fegles, John Covey and Pedro Lira all had scoring runs for the Braves, while Fegles connected with Cory Christoffersen on a touchdown pass. Brice Young scored the Braves’ other touchdown on a 37-yard fumble return.

The Braves scored the final 27 points to pull away for the easy win.

Bobcats win

Myrtle Point forced six turnovers and held on for an 18-14 win over visiting Douglas.

The Bobcats improved to 3-0, with all three wins coming against Class 4A foes.

“Our defense won this game tonight,” Myrtle Point coach John Marquez said.

James Brown had three interceptions, Thomas Kincheloe scored a touchdown after recovering a fumble, Michael Leslie set up a touchdown with an interception and Justin Fry recovered a Douglas fumble at Myrtle Point’s 1-yard line after the Trojans had cut an 18-0 lead to 18-14.

After Kincheloe scored Myrtle Point’s first touchdown, Scott Clark had a 3-yard scoring run, giving the Bobcats a 12-0 halftime lead.

Brown followed Leslie’s interception by catching a touchdown pass from Kyle Davis in the third quarter, but the Trojans responded with touchdowns by quarterback Paul Polamalu and wing back Jered Stoffal.

The Bobcats open league play at home against Bandon next Friday.

Panthers pound Cougars

Gold Beach used a strong defensive effort to beat host Illinois Valley 48-6 Friday night.

Jeffrey Knox had more than 100 rushing yards and scored one touchdown and passed for two others — to Todd Martin and James Davis.

Hugo Rosa had an interception for the Panthers and the defensive line pressured the Cougars throughout the night.

“I thought the defense played outstanding,” Gold Beach coach Kevin Swift said.

“Garrett Wolford looked outstanding catching the ball out of the backfield,” Swift said.

Vikings win at home

Jacob Mitchell scored all five touchdowns as Siuslaw got its first win of the season, beating visiting Molalla 36-14 Friday night in the Vikings’ home opener.

Mitchell, Siuslaw’s senior quarterback, had 19 carries for 198 yards rushing, including touchdowns of 14, 3, 10 and 55 yards. He also returned an interception 30 yards for Siuslaw’s final score.

Mitchell completed 12 of 21 passes for 160 yards, with one interception. Joe Swesey had six catches for 111 yards.

Siuslaw forced six turnovers. In addition to Mitchell, Robert Brog, Jordan Adams, Eric Tipler and Evan Buchanan picked off passes.

Pirates top Bruins

Phoenix beat Brookings-Harbor 28-6, keeping the Bruins winless on the season.

Chris Hammel had three touchdown passes to Skyler Reagan for the Pirates, who will visit North Bend this week. Dustin Paradis scored the Bruins’ touchdown.

Perrydale crushes Cruisers

Powers fumbled on its first three offensive plays and Perrydale took advantage, rolling up a big early lead on the way to a 72-14 win over the Cruisers in a game played at North Eugene High School.

“They’re bigger than us and faster than us, and they came to play,” said Powers coach Nick Gonzales.

Perrydale had 40 points in the first quarter and led 46-0 before Powers got the first of its two touchdowns, a 13-yard run by Kyle Blanton. In the second half, Blanton connected with Cameron Perrault on a 3-yard pass for the other score.

Cody Comerford and Ryan Brooks had two touchdowns each for Perrydale, which rushed for 333 yards.

The Cruisers return to Skyline League play at home against Butte Falls next Friday.
