ABCs become part of ArtWalk

The Coos Bay-North Bend Artwalk! Association presents September’s Artwalk! from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Artwalk! is a self-directed tour of art displays, culture and gourmet food in downtown North Bend, Pony Village Mall, Coos Bay, and Empire.  Visitors can start at any of the locations listed below, which will provide maps showing which venues are open.  For more information please call 756-1989.

North Bend

Colette’s,

3229 Broadway, suites H and I, 751-1475, will feature Bev Hempstead’s photograhpy and etched emu eggs at their new location in Broadway Plaza.

Coos Head Food Store,

1960 Sherman Avenue, 756-7264. Coos Head Food Store will present the “ABC’s of school lunch box ideas.” The store will offer ABC’s tasting of healthy and interesting lunch box food. Wheat-free lunch items will also be offered.

Margaret Ann will host the “Wine Tasting Spelling Bee” for all ArtWalk participants over 21.  Particpants will taste and then try to spell long and difficult wine varietals,  including some organic and sulfite-free wines.

Crystal Dolphin Gallery,

1901 Sherman Ave., 756-1989, will host local artist Robert McHaney and his fanciful, fantastic gnome homes.

Created out of wood and local woodland artifacts, his art  brings a forest fantasy into our lives. Robert also makes gnome bird houses, where the gnome home has a removable roof or base for cleaning purposes and a hole and perch for the birds’ landing.

Easy Lane Frames & Select Art Gallery,

3440 Broadway, 756-7638, will be feature a plein air show titled “The Great Outdoors.” The show will be open to all artists from the south coast who have completed pieces on location. 

Epiphany & Co.,

1989 Sherman Ave., 756-7900, in the Historic Odd Fellows Building, will exhibit works by Clayton Redwood, Janne LaValle, Jack Richards, Jerry Baron and Stan Fullerton.

Gallery by the Bay,

2100 Union Ave, will not be open this Artwalk! in September. For more information, call 751-1633.

North Bend Library,

1800 Sherman Ave., 756-0400,  will present “The Art of Quilting” by DeAnn Shaw and Kathy McLean.

Sozo Tea and Coffee House,

1955 Union, will offer a free 8 ounce. Artwalk latte. The changing displays of local art on the walls contribute to the ambience of the coffee shop.

We Sell It For You,

1987 Sherman Ave., 756-1961,  the eBay trading assistance store, will have an extensive selection of Patricia Hendrickson’s paintings and  other artists including Don McMichaels.

Pony Village Mall

The Artist Loft Gallery,

Suite 103, 756-4088, presents artist Beebee Slater from Scottsburg displaying watercolors with views of Americana, landscapes, florals and children. Artist and instructor Barbara Mahon is displaying new watercolors and mixed media paintings. Her new show is titled “Some New Adventures.”

East Wing Art Wall,

at the East Wing entrance, will feature watercolors by Christy Sanders of Myrtle Point.

Heritage TextileArts Guild,

Suite 157A, is a working studio featuring the unusual and unique handcrafted fiber art items, a press release said. Headles & Treadles will feature hand-woven yarns and invites visitors to join the “knit-in.”

The Rose Palette Art Studio & Gallery,

290-7858, will offer new paintings by students, along with Priscilla Wyatt’s.

Coos Bay

Coos Art Museum,

235 Anderson Ave., 267-4877 is featuring their Maritime Exhibit this month.

Leaf’s Treehouse,

175 S. Third, 266-3748, will be joining Artwalk! this month and will present several different artists.

Empire

Java Jones Coffee House,

757 Newmark, Ave., 888-4477, will feature photographer Lee Wright’s “Common Places.” The unique glass art and jewelry by Jeannine Huffman also will be shown. Bobbie Kelly, who is from Oklahoma, will show acrylic “Space Art.”

Guest artists are Ermie Goodrich, Rod Sullens, Jacqueline Buchanan and Curt Hitch. Laurie Lee will show raku pottery art.

Musicians Bill York and Paul Taylor will provide acoustic and electric guitar from 5 to 8 p.m.

Empire Flea Market,

1070 Newmark Ave., 260-9500, will feature Photography by Wayne as well as Talking Sky Jewelry (formerly Talking Woman Beads) and budding artist Montana Durham’s creative designs in beaded jewelry.
