Water meeting

The Lakeside Water District will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeside Water District, 1000 N. Lake Road in Lakeside. 

Wednesday

Harvest lunch

The South Coast Community Garden Association will have its third-annual Harvest Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Ladybug Landing Community Garden, at Eighth Street and Anderson Avenue in Coos Bay.

The event will feature Chef Jardin Kazaar, from Black Market Gourmet, who will prepare lunch with the “Best of the Garden.”

Cost is $5 for a fresh vegetable stir-fry lunch with salad, and $1 for a dessert of ice cream with fresh berries. All proceeds benefit SCCGA and Ladybug Landing.

Parkinson support

There will be a Parkinson’s disease support group meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Baycrest Village, 3959 Sheridan Ave., North Bend.

Puppet fun

A six-week puppet workshop for third, fourth and fifth grades will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, Sept. 10, and continuing through Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The event will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Elrod in Coos Bay. There will be a $6 fee covering materials and snacks.

Sardines and Birds

Cape Arago Audubon Society’s Russ Namitz will present “Sardines and Birds: National Oceanic and Atmo-spheric Administration Research Vessel Experience” at its Wednesday meeting being held at 7 p.m. at Milner Crest Education Center, 1255 Hemlock Ave., in Coos Bay.

Namitz is a science teacher at Marshfield High School and an expert at bird identification and photography. During the second half of July, he was on the NOAA vessel off the southern Oregon coast.

Employer forum

The September WorkNet Forum will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Thursday at Ocean Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living Residence, 1855 S.W. Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. WorkNet is a live forum where employers share current job openings, and job seekers make a brief presentation of their job skills and work history.

Doors open at 7 a.m.  WorkNet is facilitated by South Coast Business Employment Corporation. For more information, call SCBEC at 269-2013.

Revitalizing downtown

The Old Towne Reedsport Merchant Association  will host a meeting to discuss revitalizing downtown Reedsport at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Burdick Building 379 Fir Ave. (Highway 38).

Individuals from within the Reedsport business community are working to improve atmosphere, appearance, and the mix of businesses in downtown.

This weekend

Berry goodies

 The Cranberry Food Fair will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Bates Road Friday and Saturday. Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. until noon Friday.

All entries must contain cranberries and be made from scratch.  Judging will begin at 1 p.m. Friday.
