On July 12, Coos Bay resident Dan Hartman took first place in his age group in the bowling competition at the State Games of Oregon held at Park Lanes in Hillsboro.

The State Games of Oregon is an amateur, Olympic-style competition that involved some 16,000 athletes in 38 sports this  year.

Hartman won in three rounds: He bowled a 265 in the local competition, a 232 in the regionals and finally came through with a 224 in the state finals. Hartman won the 19-35 age group. He’s now 20.

The win qualifies him to compete in the State Games of America, to be held in Colorado Springs, Colo., next August. Last year some 12,000 competitors from around the country took part in the national competition, which happens every two years.
