SPRINGFIELD (AP) — A suspect in the fatal drive-by shooting of a Springfield woman was in critical condition after police shot him.

Springfield police say two officers shot 27-year-old Michael Wayne Wesley Jr. after he rammed his pickup into a patrol car and injured an officer on Thursday.

Investigators suspects matching the description of Wesley and 27-year-old Ronald Joshua Smith fired several rounds from a .45-caliber handgun and a shotgun at a man and woman Wednesday morning, killing 35-year-old Wendy Whitaker.

Smith has been charged with murder. He also faces theft, burglary and weapons charges.
