Fires burn Oregon cabins; 1 person dead

Friday, September 05, 2008 |
MEDFORD (AP) — Separate fires burned two Southern Oregon cabins and a badly burned body was found in one of them.
Sheriff Mike Winters of Jackson County declined to provide many details, but called the fires and death suspicious.
The victim’s name has not been released, but it’s believed to be a 46-year-old man who lived alone at one of the hilltop cabins. Neighbors say the other burned cabin was a summer home only occupied on weekends.
A driver on Dead Indian Memorial Road spotted and reported the first fire Thursday morning. A crew of six volunteers found the small, rustic cabin engulfed in flames. The second fire was reported an hour later.
