OSP done with its part in shoplift investigation

The Oregon State Police has completed its investigation into shoplifting allegations against the Coos Bay finance director.
Following normal procedures, OSP completed a report on the investigation and sent it Wednesday to Coos County. The report is on its way to the DA’s office, said Roseburg OSP Sgt. Bill Fugate, who helped prepare the report.
District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said receiving the report doesn’t mean his office will be pressing charges. “We are going to review it and make a decision,” he said.
Coos Bay put Janell Howard on paid administrative leave Aug. 25, the day after Coos Bay police were told Howard was stopped by a Wal-Mart employee when she was leaving the store without paying for $12 of merchandise.
Because the case involved a city employee, the case was delegated to the OSP’s office in Roseburg.
City Manager Chuck Freeman said Howard remains on paid administrative leave.
“Hopefully we get this wrapped up shortly,” he said. “We just have to let the process play out.”
Howard could not be reached for comment. |
